Working under awning copyright Monika McGillicuddyWe've been on vacation for the last two weeks.

When I say vacation please understand that during that time we both worked every day albeit from a distance.

I negotiated a contract, searched for homes, gave listing updates,e-mailed my e-leads, picked up 6 new e-leads, set up showing appointments... all while being hundreds of miles from my home and office.

Thank god for E-fax, WiFi, lap tops and small printers!

While I limited my blogging time severely I did pop in and check Active Rain every-once in awhile.

It was good to get away but even while away I never really got away from real estate

Normal people take vacations and leave their work behind. Normal people clock out on Friday and don't think about work until Monday..normal people don't work nearly every weekend, normal people leave the office at 5pm or 6pm, normal people have benefits and health insurance. Don't they?

I guess I'm not very normal but I do love what I do and the freedom it allows me. So when my mom says "you're leaving again?" with that look on her face or my friends say "you guys always take off in that RV." I have to remind them what my life is really like when I'm away.

You know what... I wouldn't trade it for anything. life is too short to wait until tomorrow to do something special.  Jay and I try and make every day special in some little way. No regrets here!

At times in New Brunswick I thought I was in Hawaii...it is so majestic.

After we left New Brunswick we went to Bar Harbor Maine for our annual week at the Bar Harbor KOA.

We have the best site in the entire park! No exaggeration...our site is waterfront and we can kayak right from our campsite. Bar Harbor Campsite copyright monika mcgillicuddy    This shot was taken at low tide...when it is high tide the water comes right up to the grass.

We were lucky enough to have several wonderful sunsets and some very tasty Maine Lobster.Sunset Bar Harbor Maine copyright Monika McGillicuddy  There is nothing like it!

At some level, real estate is done, and done well by those that love it!  Its hard to leave something completely behind if you enjoy it that much!

Wifi and efax sure does make it easy doesn't it!?! And it's always nice to share this side of you in your blogs. Consumers relate to that really well.

And that lobster looks good by the way.

That's pretty awesome Monika - I got back a couple of weeks ago and can't seem to catch up - so good luck with that!  and I agree......our vacations are not like normal people's.....we never stop working.  I negotiated a deal from our boat in Bimini while petting stingrays.  (it sounds surreal, but that's our life!)

Monika,

We all need to recharge our batteries and get away for a little R & R.  Technology gives us the freedom to do our business anywhere, but sometimes I need to leave my business at the office.  Now, I'll take my lobster with melted garlic butter!!!

Monika,

For me, freedom is also why I love Real Estate.  Not just the freedom to go anywhere as I choose, but the freedom to sit here at night reading, drooling over fabulous pictures, and say "I'm working...."

Thank you for sharing this, I sometimes forget that I need to go somewhere away from work, just to recharge.

Hi Monika - from that second picture, I can see exactly why you said it reminds you of the majesty of Hawaii - that picture does just that.  Love the other pictures - that sunset is just gorgeous!  I want my lobster!!!!  Just how many lobsters did you guys eat that night anyway??  I see at least 3, and those don't look like little chicken lobsters either!!

Kaushik...It is hard to leave it completely behind and if I ever did I'd probably be worried the entire time about what was happening.

Stephan...Do it, don't wait!  You mentioned leaving the phone behind...what about the lap top?

Ricardo...That lobster was the best!!!

Jeannie...The lobsters were so sweet! The Bay of Fundy was incredible and Bar Harbor with Acadia National park is a true treasure.

Erik...Thank you it was an awesome trip.

Harold...Melted garlic? I've never tried it that way but I'm a garlic lover and that sounds yummy.

Kathy...Thank you so much. I love that freedom and sometimes when I'm working from a remote location like that...I feel bad for "normal" people.

Ann...Those lobster were 3 pounders each. We only had one each...you see 3 lobsters but there were actually 5 big ones on the table for we had 3 other people sharing the feast that night.

Sarah...It was refreshing! We sure did enjoy ourselves.

Suzanne...Thank you so much. We try very hard to have a balance. With both of us in real estate the stress level is very high. Our time away (not off) helps us do that. With the motor home we have the ability to pick up and go as we travel with our home. We're never without a bed or place to park it.

Monika - Well, your pictures sealed the deal! Your hubby's twin and I are definitely going to have to visit now! What a gorgeous place!

You couldn't have had a better camping spot!  I don't know who had who for dinner...those lobsters look like they could have eaten you!

Monika, Nice photos there of your vacation. I wondered what happened to you. How much recharging of the batteries did you get done with all that running around (and working while not working LOL)? My wife's planning our vacation for the end of the month. We'll have to see how that works out. Take care and welcome back.

Gorgeous!  You know, your clients really will benefit from your ability to step away (mostly) for a while.  We really hurt ourselves and our business when we refuse to give ourselves a break.  This business is just insane at times. =)

Leigh...Insane is right! I'm much better with a break then without one. Burnout really sucks, it affects you everywhere and really shows in your attitude. Breaks are a good thing.

Monika - Oooh, yes, love those lobsters. What a great set of pics. Mkes me homesick for NE (but NOT enough to leave California). We have not been back for almost a year now - it's about time. Thanks for a terrific post - for a number of reasons.

Midori...I think being able to work remotely allows me to take more time. I'd rather be exploring a new area and working a little bit while I'm there...than not being able to take the time away to explore.  We all need to recharge.

i've always wondered who gets to decide what's normal?

beautiful photo's that to a certain degree probably don't do justice to the real thing.

Cool Dude Nick...Those lobsters were YUMMY...I had to laugh at your parking spot comment. That camp site is the same spot we get every year. In fact we already booked it for next year. You probably did see a picture of it before as we did a virtual tour of Bar Harbor awhile back.

Jay B... We all have our own normal I guess. You are absolutely correct they do not do the real thing justice at all. It was a trip to cherish. Are you from Canada?

i was born and raised in dover, nh. i attended and graduated from UNH.

It also is possible that our paths have crossed previously (in a business sense) as i started out, in the mortgage business, as a loan officer in the seacoast and southern tier of NH.
