No Negativity... And Get Out Of Here

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Daytona Condo Realty, 386-405-4408

When I walked into the lobby of Harbour Beach Resort, a Daytona Beach oceanfront condo-hotel, yesterday to see how they were doing, I could not even imagine that I would end up kicked off the property.

I saw that thHhabour Beach Resort - jon Zolskye sign “Atlantic Shores Management”, the manager was there, I did not meet this lady before, so I decided to introduce myself.

I actually did not need the manager to see that the balconies were fixed and aluminum railing installed. I have photos of before, and while they were doing it. I just came to say ‘Hi’…

I told her that I was a broker and that I specialized in condo-hotels and that I was blogging about them on the Internet. She became immediately very tense and said she would need the approval of the Board of Directors of the condoowners association to to give me information. I told her I was not going to ask her any specific questions that would warrant getting permission from the Board.

She became offensive and told me to leave, and I walked out, and she ran after me and started talking again. It was quite funny, that she would ask me a question, but then would not let me even answer and scream “get out”.

If I were a potential buyer, and walked in and had such a ‘friendly’ reception, wouldn’t it be negativity at its best? Would I buy there?  But here’s the problem.anger - jon zolsky blog I write how I feel. So, do you really expect me to tell people that this is a great place?

Well, is it? Let’s see…

I checked Trip Advisor to see what people thought of Harbour Beach Resort.

52 reviews total. 52% of these 52 travelers did not recommend this resort.

So, do I feel negative about the resort? Hmm, 50/50 (remember, it is Trip Advisor’s opinion).

If you are in the market for a unit in a condo-hotel, I would not suggest that you buy in Harbour Beach Resort. Not because of the manager, of course...

There are a few condo-hotels in greater Daytona area, which I can show you and which, in my opinion, make way more sense… and nobody yells at you, which is a bonus...

Wow, guess you made her day. Not a good way to handle someone of your caliber who could have helped sell some of those units.

Sounds like Big time Insecurity to me, or, she was hiding something.  No brains - No gains.

People who let their emotions rule them shouldn't be in positions where they have to deal with other people and she definitely has issues.

Connie's mother gives great advice.

Jon, wow, interesting to say the least. I agree, what ARE they hiding? It would be in their best interest to make nice with the Realtor who can sell the units and keep things fresh and alive, rather than to shove you, no kick you out the door. The word jackass comes to mind. Nope, you can't argue with stupid.

And now look at the publicity they got? And all for free!

unbelievable

I hope someone shows your article to upper management.

Jon - I read your articles about the various complexes in the Daytona area and have never found anything but honest and helpful information.  Very useful for a potential buyer (or seller).

You do not deserve that sort of treatment - and the manager is a fool.

Deborah - I think there simply was something wrong with the lady. I am still puzzled what made her behave this way.

i think the Association is ill served when they have management company employees being rude without any provocation

I kept saying that I was not going to ask her anything

Stupid me, shouldn't have said "hi" and avoid all the aggravation.

To everyone

thank you so much for your comments. I don't want to make this forum my personal vendetta to the manager.

I can't explain her reaction, these things sometimes happen. i do not think it is good for the association to have difficult personalities representing them, even if they know their trade very well. Some people are not people person, and it may hurt.

Implying that I will write what the board authorizes was a funny thought, though

I think when people do not want negativity, they do not create it right on the spot, like the lady did. Achieving totally opposite result is not the testament of great communication skills, which is the requirement for a good property manager.

If that's thhe case, it is their loss.

And, Ted, I was told that she WAS the top level management, I was told that this was the owner, and people who told me that were not really surprised with my experience. But I can't guarantee that this really was the owner of the company, maybe not

The whole thing was hilariously funny, unprovoked and overreacted.
