Being Professional Is Not My Job!
We are getting all of our windows replaced since they are 14+ years old. It's time.
I like to do things in three's when it comes to getting prices and measuring quality. For the windows we only interviewed two window companies. I used to be in the window and door industry years ago but I still know what I'm looking at and understand the lingo.
The first contractor came in and did his spiel. He demonstrated the heat factor for double glass and for triple glass. He took a heat lamp and had us place our hand in front of the double glass. He started 6" away and we felt the heat instantly. We did the same for the triple glass. We started to feel the heat when the lamp was on top of the glass. Pretty impressive. He gave us a price and left. He was very nice and professional.
The second contractor came in and did his spiel. No heat demonstration but he was just as knowledgeable as the first contractor.
Now, I let them both know ahead of time that we are not signing right then and there. We not only shop price but also shop for quality. Both said not a problem. But, contractor #2 had a BIG problem.
He started the pricing very, very high. I was kind of surprised at this because contractor #1 did not do that. So here we are sitting there with #2 and he's slowly coming down in price. I finally told him that ABC contractor gave us XXX price for triple glass which is #2's price for double glass. When he asked who #1 is he all of a sudden got up, packed up, and said we wasted his time! My husband left the room because he knew what was coming. He saw "the look" on my face. I ripped into #2 telling him that being professional is part of your job and you do not talk to anyone like that in their home or elsewhere. Now get out! Obviously, #2 didn't think so and that is why he's #2. He has a high poop factor.
I have since filed a complaint with the BBB. No one talks to us like that, inside or outside our home! If I spoke like that to a homeowner they would kick my butt and it would be well deserved.
#2 reacted that way for many reasons:
- #1 has had the same license for over 25 years.
- Not one complaint with the BBB. That is extremely impressive.
- #1 gives you a price. No haggling. Their price for 13 triple glass is $5,700.00 installed and that includes a sliding glass door. #2 started us at almost $11,000 for the same windows. The same everything. I called #1 and he came back to have us complete the paperwork at 9:00 at night!
I guess #2 doesn't think being professional is part of his job.
