Lake Wallenpaupack Hotels, Motels, Suites, & Rentals...
It is late in the season to be posting this, but I have been so busy "doing real estate" that I neglected to get this posted sooner.
Even though Labor Day is almost upon us, it's not too soon to begin thinking about your winter vacation (of course you would like to ski at Tanglwood or Big Bear; or bring your snowmobile up to the lake or to the nearby state land trails in Pike County..or maybe you're one of those folks who likes to cut holes in the ice, and hover there, waiting
for something to bite...)
It is also a good time to be thinking about Summer Vacation 2008. I recommend bookmarking this post and coming back to it when planning your Lake Wallenpaupack visit, either in the winter, or next summer, or sometime in between. (Columbus Day is beautiful on Wallenpaupack...)
I've compiled a list of the Top 10 Places to Stay, according to yours truly, when visiting the Lake Wallenpaupack area of Pike (and Wayne) County. I hope my dear readers will find this post (and its sequel) helpful and worthy of notice.
#1 PLACE TO STAY: POCONO PINES MOTOR INN
HC 1 Box 2298
Tafton, PA 18464
570-226-2772
ppmtrinn@ptd.net
Office hours:
Summer - 9am to 11pm
Winter - 9am to 10pm
This one is, without a doubt, my favorite place in the area. I do not know whether it is the unique towering pine tree sign, or the funky "Hand Chairs" by the pool (which make me think of Oscar on the Odd Couple - as he sat in a similar chair, he remarked that he felt like an M&M. No matter what it is, I seem to be able to tie anything in life to a TV show...)
Anyway, this rustic motel is rich with character and is affordable to boot. Amenities include a swimming pool, picnic area, playground, shuffleboard, cottages/suites in addition to regular rooms, and lakefront access to Lake Wallenpaupack, including dock space for your boat (up to 20 ft. max!). My sister-in-law from St. Charles, MO stayed here with her family during their last visit to The Poconos, and she gives Pocono Pines Motor Inn two thumbs up.
#2 PLACE TO STAY: TUCK 'EM INN MOTEL
US Route 6
HC 6 Box 6855
Hawley, PA 18428
(570)226-6460
Cool, they even offer GPS coordinates!
41*26.576n by 75*10.274w
The family owned and operated Tuck Em Inn is located just outside of Hawley, and is only minutes from Lake Wallenpaupack. All of their rooms are non-smoking for the comfort of their guests. One of the newest features is an indoor pool.
They suggest that you call for current rates. (By the way, the NEW WEICHERT REALTORS PAUPACK GROUP office is right next door to the Tuck 'Em Inn...talk about conveniently located! As soon as you get checked in, I'll be ready to take you out and find your Lake Wallenpaupack dream home! )
#3 PLACE TO STAY: EHRHARDT'S WATERFRONT RESORT (& RESTAURANT)
HC 6, Box 6275 (Route 507)
Hawley, PA 18428
Telephone: 570-226-4388
Toll Free: 1-800-678-5907
Previously, I wrote a blog reviewing/introducing Ehrhardt's Restaurant (and my favorite lunch, the Portobello Sandwich...). The resort is right next door and offers classic accommodations and spectacular lakefront views of Lake Wallenpaupack. (Resort guests are treated to a discount coupon for the restaurant, too!) There are both lake view and non-lake view rooms, in addition to cottages or a lakeview apartment to choose from.
Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort guests can enjoy a heated outdoor full size pool, baby pool, shuffleboard, horseshoes and playground.
Go fishing on the lake, or take out a paddleboat, rowboat or canoe. Guests who like to bring your own boat will be pleased to find that Ehrhardt's provides boat slips on the Big Lake.
#4 PLACE TO STAY: GRESHAM'S MOTEL, CHOPHOUSE RESTAURANT, AND MARINA
HC 6 Box 6150
Hawley, PA 18428
(570) 226-4621
Okay, I will admit that the reason I like Gresham's is the fantastic soft ice cream at the plaza...but I digress. Gresham's has been offering lodging on Lake Wallenpaupack since the 1950's. The two-story, stone faced motel was built in 1990, and offers all rooms the standard air conditioning, cable tv, and telephones, but additionally offers lakeview patios as well.
Right next to the motel is the popular eatery, Gresham's Chop House, offering a full menu of delicious food to choose from.
CALL for current rates and availability.
#5 PLACE TO STAY: LAKE WALLENPAUPACK SUITES (FORMERLY EDGEWATER SUITES)
HC 8 Box # 6866
Hawley, PA, 18428
Tel (570) 226-3740 Fax (570) 226-6720
Last but not least on my list for today is Lake Wallenpaupack Suites, located at the junction of US Route 6 and PA Route 507, overlooking Lake Wallenpaupack (what else?).
Offering one & two bedroom + loft suites, in the heart of the Lake Wallenpaupack region. Close to everything - main roads, not far from town, nearby dining, and easy access to the lake and perfect for those wishing to capture the feeling of their own lake house.

This concludes Part 1 of Karen's Top 10 list of places to stay when visiting Lake Wallenpaupack. Of course, the very best place to stay is in your very own lake house - and I'll be happy to help you find that, too!
