The celebration of Olathe Kansas and its 150th Birthday with Boot SculpturesProud Past Boot Sculpture

The Proud Past boot sculpture is one of the twelve six foot sculptures helping to celebrate Olathe's 150th Birthday.

The art teacher, Lora Simms, along with the students of Indian Creek Elementary School designed and painted this "Welcome Home! Cowboy Boots" sculpture.  Lora and the student's collaborative efforts were a great way for the students to get involved with Olathe's 150th celebration.

The sponsor of this sculpture is provided by Security Savings Bank.  Security Savings Bank was established by Don Bell a pioneer in home development here in Olathe Kansas.  In 1989, Donald H. Bell, Sr. and his wife Faith acquired ownership of the Security Savings Bank and merged this institution with their existing institution, Security Savings and Loan in Garden City, Kansas

Security Savings Bank opened an office in Olathe from is initial founded office in Salina Kansas where is started in 1898 under the name Security Savings and Loan Association.  It has quickly become an active construction and residential lender in the Kansas City market and is one of largest savings institutions based in Kansas.

Don and Faith Bell share their vision and values in an inspired illustration SolidGroundTM: The Story of Security Savings Bank, which tells the story of God using two ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. Their hope is that this publication will inspire others to take a similar leap of faith. It is an expression of their faith; love for God, family, friends and country; as well as the commitment to the many customers the Bank serves.

Those boots are cool :-)  I've only been as far west as Oklahoma.  Interesting to know that the first cowboy boots were created in Kansas.
