UPDATE as of June 29, 2010:
Thank you to Tom for asking if it was still open.
As of June 29, 2010 Webbs has officially closed.
Located in Holiday, Florida Webbs Superstore was located at 2607 US Highway 19. They sold salvaged groceries and other goods.
I was a regular for over 8 years so know the reason behind their abrupt and shocking closure.
I spoke to Shannon who was the manager and they closed down on June 29, 2010. Evidently they were not able to get supplies since the manufacturers were selling products overseas at full price. The manufacturers left little choice to the owners of Webbs to close down. Major companies are selling liquidated products for full price overseas instead of to Americans who need it. Sadly this is a sad state of our economic affairs.
For those who may remember they used to have another location off of State Road 52 in Hudson. They eventually closed that one too.
I shopped there regularly too so it is very shocking and surprising that they are now closed. The last time I went they cut prices down to 50% off everything except the DVDs then on the last Saturday in June 2010 they had a special for $10 a cart, one per person.
Please note that Aldi will be opening soon in Port Richey, Florida near the theaters. I shop at the Aldi in Clearwater Florida off of U.S. Highway 19 and they have great prices too.I've done a bit of research and it looks like they are set to open sometime in September 2010. I have also read that they plan to open another Aldi location in Holiday, Florida near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Alternate 19. I will keep readers posted since I like to save money on my groceries too! :)
Last time I went to the Aldi in Clearwater (which is a bit north of Sunset Point Road on the west side of U.S. 19) which was a few days ago a dozen of eggs was 79 cents, a gallon of milk was $2.69, and a pound of strawberries was $1.49. Their BBQ sauce was $1.19 which is not too bad.
In the meantime... see you at Aldi. I shop there more now that Webb's has closed.
