2010 Unionville Festival - Firefighters Assist Setting Up Music Stage on Main Street Unionville
I was strolling along Main Street Unionville at 6:30 pm on June 4, 2010 shortly before the 41st edition of the Unionville Festival held in Unionville, Ontario, Canada opened later in the evening for the weekend.
I noticed that a Town of Markham Fire Department pumper truck with its emergency lights flashing pulled up to the corner of Main Street Unionville and Carlton Road where the Main Street North Stage was being constructed for some of the Unionville Festival's music events.
At least four of Markham's finest firefighters jumped out of their pumper truck, hooked up the firehose to the pumper and began to fill up large white water barrels with water. In the photo below, you can see one Markham firefighter manning the pumper and three firefighters diligently working on controlling the hole and filling a water barrel. The emergency lights were flashing throughout this important exercise.
The water barrels are used to securely hold up the tent canopy including the poles that protects the musicians and musical instruments from inclement rain as well as the bright sun. The tent canopy is being well used this year since it rained last night starting around 9 pm. Rain is also expected during parts of Saturday and Sunday.
The Unionville fire station is located a short one or two minute drive away.
The Unionville Festival is being held this year from Friday June 4, 2010 to Sunday, June 6, 2010 on Main Street Unionville.
