Habitat for Humanity / 7 Rivers Maine will be building three homes this fall in Downtown Brunswick. If you are interested in applying for one of these homes, you need to contact Habitat for Humanity to complete a pre-screening questionnaire - - the deadline to do this is this coming Monday, June 7, 2010.
For more information, contact Habitat for Humanity / 7 Rivers Maine at 207/386-5081 or by email at sharon@habitat7rivers.org by Monday.
An orientation meeting will be held on June 12th at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church at 132 McKeen Street in Brunswick, from 9 am - noon. At this session, Habitat volunteers will be talk about the program and help fill out applications.
In order to apply, you must currently live in the towns of Brunswick or Harpswell or in Sagadahoc or Lincoln Counties. You must also earn less than 60% of the area median income and currently live in substandard housing.
Once qualified, each adult in the household must also be willing to put in 250 hours of "sweat equity" building Habitat homes, working in the Habitat for Humanity ReStore or in the Habitat administrative offices.
Our local Board, The Merrymeeting Board of Realtors supports Habitat for Humanity and I've met some of the families who get these homes - - it is truly a wonderful and inspiring thing. Brokers and agents from Allen & Selig Realty have also volunteered their labor to help build Habitat homes - an educational and rewarding experience, for sure.
Habitat for Humanity helps people help themselves to achieve the American Dream of home ownership.
