Moving To Los Angeles: 6 Part Series on Relocating to Los Angeles for Newbies - Part2 - The San Gabriel Valley
San Gabriel Valley is one of the 6 regions of Los Angeles. It is the eastern most region of LA and borders the western side of Orange County. The cities of the San Gabriel Valley range from Long Beach on the south to Pasadena on the north, to Downey on the west and Cypress on the east. There actually is a city of San Gabriel within the valley, and a historic San Gabriel Mission.
There is a total of 31 cities in San Gabriel Valley. The San Gabriel Mountains borders the north around the AltaDena and Sierra Madre areas. Due to the way those mountains are located, it sometimes creates poor air quality in that area, as some residents have noticed.
If you are an aficionado of historic architecture type homes, some of the cities you may be interested in are Pasadena, Monrovia, South Pasadena, and perhaps uptown Whittier.
Some of the great hotspots in the San Gabriel Valley include the following:
Old Town Pasadena - great metropolitan area of shops and restaurants with meticulously maintained older architecture
Old Town Monrovia - cute, charming, well-maintained area with shops and restaurants in a historic architecture setting.
Long Beach - A great beach city with nice attractions such as the Queen Mary and Spruce Goose.
Descanso Gardens - A beautiful botanical garden experience
San Gabriel Mission - A historic, early Spanish mission.
The residential flavors in the San Gabriel Valley tend to range in the quaint, charming, somewhat modest areas. The most prime homes can be found in the San Marino and Pasadena areas. These older, meticulously maintained homes are just amazing.
There really is no ultra-modern, sky-scraper type metropolitan areas in the San Gabriel Valley. Those are found in the Central LA and West LA areas, which I will discuss in the upcoming segments of Central LA and the WestSide.
The people in the San Gabriel Valley are for the most part, middle America, down-to-earth type. We do have just a few spots in the area that have graffiti issues and a little social "turbulence" shall we say, but for the most part the San Gabriel Valley cities have a modest, peaceful ring to them. I was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley and although I do not live there now, I know it very well. My family still lives in the area.
