The Denver D & F Tower (the Daniels & Fisher Tower) is an anchor on Denver's 16th Street Pedestrian Mall. Originally, Denver's D & F Tower was built when the Daniels & Fisher department store was built in 1910. Designed by architect Frederick Sterner, Denver's D & F Tower stands 20 story's and 325 feet tall. When first built, the D & F Tower was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. The D & F Tower was designed in the image of The Campanile (St. Mark's Bell Tower) which is located at the Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy. Denver's D & F Tower has a clock tower at the top of the tower with clock faces on each of the four sides. A 2½ ton bell occupies the top two floors of Denver's D & F Tower.
In 1958, the Daniels & Fisher store was bought out by the May Company. In 1969, Denver's D & F Tower was named to the National Register of Historic Places. The original Daniels & Fisher store was demolished in 1971, yet, the D & F Tower remained. In 1981 the D & F Tower was renovated into lofts and businesses which remain today.
