Taking Out the Trash

Services for Real Estate Pros with One Call Property Care

I have never understood why some cities create trash hauling monopolies while others delegate the responsibility to many haulers.

Minneapolis, for example includes trash hauling in the monthly bill for water and other utilities. In many ways this makes a lot of sense. There is only 1 garbage truck rumbling through the neighborhood, instead of many. The containers are uniform which is always pleasing to the eye. Finally, there is the ease of billing. Homeowners just pay their trash hauling bill with the rest of the utility bill from the city.

Woodbury on the other hand allows licensed trash haulers to compete for business within the city. Haulers must service neighborhoods on the day appointed by the city, and must offer certain container sizes. The upside to this arrangement is more competition. Haulers must compete on pricing, which benefits the homeowner. Another benefit is more choice. Homeowners can choose many different size containers, and different kinds of recycling packages. Of course the downside to all of this is the multiple trucks which come down the street on trash day.

In cities which allow multiple trash haulers, One Call Property Care can include these services into an individually tailored property care plan. The haulers that we use offers many container sizes and also has co-mingled recycling containers.

I never thought about this. Our garbage, yard waste & recycling pickups are included in our water bill. Each has a specific day for pickup and I can almost count on the specific time.
