Whether a buyer or a seller moving can be one more stress added to the weeks of inspections, appraisals, quotes for work to be done, repairs, and seemingly endless paperwork that needs to be signed or initialled. The buying or selling process commotion can many times leave little room for thoughts of the move itself.
Some tips that may make your move go as smoothly as possible are:
1) Keep some packing materials available for last minute items. Transport items of special value yourself instead of using a moving company if possible.
2) Mark a box "bare necessities" that is packed with those things you will need right away, soap, tissue, towel, or paper towels, toothpaste, deodorant, cell phone charger, coffee maker. (light bulbs, just incase)
3) Change for young children can be unsettling, especially when seeing their possessions packed away and moved. Keep out a special toy or two to help them not feel as if the familiarity of their world is going away. Enlist the aid of a family member, friend or neighbor to occupy their time while you prepare little ones things for the move.
4) Make arrangements for someone to watch your pets. They like children may be stressed and escape unnoticed with doors opening and closing.
5) The last thing you want to do on the way to your new home is clean the old one. Be good to yourself and hire someone to come in and clean after the move.
6) In advance of your move fill out a mail forwarding card at the post office.
