ESTES PARK HIGH SCHOOL BAND BOOSTERS TO PROVIDE CONCESSIONS FOR THE GREELEY BIG BAND FESTIVAL                                 ON SUNDAY, JUNE 27!

The concession stand is raising funds for the Estes Park School District instrumental music program, earmarked primarily to provide funding to employ Dan Timbrell, a retired band director, as a para-professional for the school band department. Due to reduced funding from the state, the Estes Park School District eliminated several teaching positions and nearly all para-professional positions, including the band para-professional, in the district to meet an expected $1,000,000 shortfall. The Band Boosters and Band Director Chuck Varilek felt that Timbrell's contribution to the band program was essential for the continued success of the band program and its students. As the band paraprofessional, Timbrell has provided both individual and group lessons for the high school and middle school band members. A special thank you from the Estes Park Schools band program goes to the Estes Park School District for allowing the Band Boosters to provide this valuable service to our students. The Estes Park Big Band will be performing at the Festival located in the St. Michaels’s Center Band Shell, as well as The Morgan Community College Jazz Ensemble, Kream of the Krop, Don Elwood Big Band, Just for Kicks and the John Mills Orchestra featuring Jerrine Racek on vocals, Al Hood on trumpet and Chuck Schneider on tenor sax. All Day general admission is $10.00, Students $5.00 and kids 12 and under are free. Proceeds will benefit the Weld Food Bank.

Because I am fortunate enough to play in the trumpet section in the Estes Park Big Band, I'll be playing at this event, as well as flipping burgers and selling kettle corn to (hopefully) raise a big pile of money toward Dan Timbrell's paycheck this year. The kids absolutely adore him...and he turned down a large salary elsewhere to be able to stay with us here in Estes Park. Just another reason Estes Park is a great place to live!

(and since they hated the poster they hired someone to do "down the hill" I had the chance to do a little design work on the fly...)

Good Luck with this endeavor Lisa.  It is just amazing what people can accomplish when they have a common goal.  Such a shame that jobs were cut and the kids are the ones who ultimately suffer.
