Why do I care? Because marketing is about the math and I'm a marketing guy. The math is the most important thing. Not the color you use in an ad. Not the photo you pick for a marketing piece. It’s the math.
And it's not a new concept. If they were alive, you could ask David Ogilvy (1911–1999) who wrote Ogilvy on Advertising. He is considered by many as the father of modern advertising and his “secret weapon” was direct advertising: How many responded to the advertising produced.
Or before him, Claude C. Hopkins (1866-1932) who was one of the great advertising pioneers. He believed advertising existed only to sell something and should be measurable and justify the results that it produced. He wrote a book called Scientific Advertising. He was so good at the math that it’s reported that he was hired at a salary of $185,000 a year, in 1907.
So I care about the numbers. Hopefully you do too.
So who will it be? Which one of you will be the 1,000 visitor to my ActiveRain profile? Whoever it is, you know I’m going to check!
