Is Wawa coming to Berwyn?

Wawa seems to be inspecting the old Eckerd property on Lancaster Ave in Berwyn to see if they might be able to open a Wawa Gas station and store on the site. The site on the corner with Bridge and Lancaster Avenue in the heart of Berwyn would be a high visibility site and location that has been empty for a long time.

Tests seem to be underway, however they have not as yet according to sources made any approach to Easttown township for permission.

What do you think? Is this good for Berwyn or not? How do you think Easttown will react? Is this a chance for the township to make improvements to the intersection there?

I live in the area of the proposed Wawa and cannot imagine how the many, many middle school and high school students will be able to continue to safely walk to and from school with the increased traffic that a Wawa will create. There are already many cars speeding down Bridge Ave. even when elementary school age children are walking to and from the bus stop on that road. It would be necessary for there to be speed bumps put in on Bridge Ave., for the Easttown police department to increase their monitoring of speeding and unsafe driving on that road, and for an additional crossing guard to be placed at the driveway of Wawa in order to ensure the safety of our children. Otherwise, I fear that it is an accident waiting to happen.

I can't imagine a Wawa at that intersection, that lot doesn't seem to be large enough compared to the stores they are opening. I also wonder how traffic in and out of that property will work at an already nasty intersection, oh and a fire house right there! Crazy. I think it should be a restaurant! Wawa isn't a place where I would shop, particularly.

From what I have discovered the plan is for six pumps and a store. There is a lot of interest from residents who are concerned as children cross that intersection from the schools and as mentioned by others there is also the firehouse.

A Wawa at this corner is the worst idea I've heard in a long time. I live in the vicinity and can verify what Sondra said...the traffic on Bridge Ave. is already a nightmare. There is a lot of it and people are speeding down the road trying to beat the light at the end of the street. Bridge Ave. is a main walking route for many kids to T.E. Middle and Conestoga. I have witnessed countless close calls where large SUVs speed dangerously close to the kids trying to walk...and of course there are no sidewalks. The proposed Wawa would be a 24 hour one...it will increase traffic day and night, create MORE danger for kids walking, bring the local drunk driving crew right down Bridge after the bars close, and be an unwelcome source of noise and light pollution for the residents of Bridge Ave. This is a terrible fit for Berwyn!
