Don't Let The World Trample Your Inherent Goodness

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

WitchIn disagreements among people, you will see this in particular in real estate negotiation and also dispute resolution, people can get down in the mud together.

Don't Let The World Trample Your Inherent Goodness.

In all disagreements if the other person is loud and yells that doesn't mean you have to be loud and yell. If they become beyond normal reasonable your good self can remain intact and refuse to go there. In the Wizard of Oz the Wicked Witch of the West wanted Dorothy to succumb to her ways yet Dorothy, although frightened, remained above the fray. I guess if you wear pigtails vs. a black hat and a green face you are one of the good guys, gals.

In all sorts of disputes keep your inner goodness going and don't lose it or move over to the dark side your opponent may be showing with her green colors. Be respectful, in control, level headed and above all your BEST when dealing with other people. Easy? Not always but think before you speak, and remember all that noise going on by the other person is their noise, they own it. What is inside of you, your goodness, is highly valued as well. Don't get down in the mud with the pigs. You will not stay clean in the fight.

I haven't lost my cool in a transaction - I did once on a blog post and deleted the comment and apologized to the person I was talking to.  I embarrassed myself.  :(

That witch is lurking in my head - gotta keep my hat on.  :)

What a great reminder to keep cool and collected. When my feathers are ruffled I take a deep breath before proceeding, and it helps a lot.

So true!  Stooping to the lower level will not get you anywhere but down!  Keep your cool and let them play the fool!

Gary, by the same token if you must be wicked and are mortally affected by a dousing of water.  You should recommend to the house staff to be certain that no amount capable of causing your death be made available to any visitor's use there.  An ounce of prevention...........

Gary, you will come out on top in everyones eyes if you don't lower yourself to their level.  Even if you lose the battle, you may win the war.

This is such good advice, especially when you are in the heat of the moment.

Great point Gary.  I have to laugh at the picture since I'm involved in a transaction with another that has a striking resemblance to the wicked witch.

Gary,

Sometimes it's hard to control your emotions when someone really attacks you, keeping your cool requires extra effort. If you can do it the results from the confrontation usually favor you. So. it's well worth it.

Mud can be good for the skin!I agree that professionalism is necessary in all aspects of real estate. People tend to get 'ruffled' when the control is out of their reach or when they let emotions override their better judgement.

But I do have to ask, "What's wrong with a little mud once in a while, it's good for your skin, just ask Bacon!"

It is good to see you Gary!

Hi Gary!  Love the pig analogy too!  And, this is SO true--you are a good one to share this wisdom as I don't think I've ever seen you in the mud with the pigs here in the Rain!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend...

Gary - Your subject line is a statement to live by.  I think I'll print that off and hang it in my office.  Generally, I stay pretty positive, but every once in awhile the green specter of the monster lurks beneath the surface:-)

Right again Gary! I think cooler heads always prevail. Someone that has to yell to get their point across really is not doing a good job communicatiing.

Gary - Another agent in my office and I were discussing this just yesterday.  There are still the old school agents who have not accepted the fact that it's now a different business culture.  Many agents got into real estate back when people managed by intimidation. It's no longer acceptable to be mean and nasty, nor is it productive.
