Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

I am scheduling an appointment to take a new "real estate" photo.  My question to you all is, "Should the photo be of me dressed professionally, in a suit, or should it be of me in causal business attire?".  In my daily life I dress in casual business attire.  I live in warm Central Texas and do not feel the need to wear a suit.  I do wear a suit on listing appointments and to some networking events.  I want to look like myself in the photo.  Of course, my better self, yet still myself.

Do you have an opinion?  My pet peeve is realtor business cards where I have to look twice or more at the photo before I recognize the person standing in front of me.

Yet, I feel the photos I have are too casual., may be too me??

I would advise to always dress professionally when taking photos. Real estate is still a conservative business.

If your market is the casual type then dress accordingly.  Be you...it is what the client is looking for.

I agree with Diane and Lizette... I work in a resort area and we dress in resort attire... it is upper scale, country club type, but still snappy causual...

Hi Kimber,

Dress how you would dress the first time meeting clients.

Nothing is worse than having someone look at your business card and then look at you as if you're not the same person - it happened to me with my first pictures and I've never "done myself up" for pictures since.

Kimber, I think either works...but your comment says it all.  Please save me from the business card with a high school picture of the Grandmother/Grandfather in front of me!  Hey, I have some great pics from twenty years ago too!  LOL!

Kimber,

I was just having this conversation with some other business professionals about a week ago.  It seems that here in Austin, the demographic prefers someone they can connect with - not someone they're intimidated by.  In fact, I was talking with a woman who said her business suits and professional attire (even in pictures) actually cost her business.  She said that people, upon looking at her, assumed they could not afford her services.  Just food for thought...  Bottom line, just like Diane said, be yourself!

Your headshot is part of your personal branding, and people expect to see it everywhere. So, do invest into a professional one with a professional make up and a proper outfit.
