white sands nat monument

I visited White Sands National Monument on my way back from the Grand Canyon at Christmas time 2009.

visitors center

I loved this visitors center, I got to see the adobe style architecture up close.  It actually was very comfortable inside the building.

dunes

This is a view of the 1 mile trail around the dunes.

sign in the dunes

This is the warning sign near where you park your car.

dunes

They have placed some interesting placards with information about the wildlife and plants on the trail.

roadrunner sign

Here is one about the roadrunner.  What cute birds.

picnic area

There are several picnic tables for families to use.

sand boarding

Here is one thing you don't get to do at most national parks -- sand board.  Hope you get to visit this unique National Monument someday.  It is worth the trip.  For more information, click on White Sands National Monument.

Hi Liz, Great pictures! I am looking forward to making a trip south, hopefully sometime soon. We are beginning to plan what we want to check out while we are there, and I think that based on your beautiful photos that this will definitely be on our list. Thanks!

I have not been there yet. I'm still hoping to win the lottery so that I can retire and do some more travel. Of course, in order to win the lottery, I guess one has to play the lottery.

My last visit to White Sands was in the Summer of 1973, but I sure had a good time.
