Gladden Farms, Marana AZ - PROGRESS!!  Save the Great Horned Owl!

In the recent movie, Avatar, viewers were given a very strong message about greed, progress, saving the planet, appreciation for wildlife, etc.  GREEN is a word becoming more and more "colorful" in our priorities and focus now, and rightly so.

I've written in previous blogs about the beauty of Gladden Farms, Marana AZ, and that the community is up and growing again, with new construction and new subdivisions coming to life.  Walgreens has purchased land nearby and progress is full speed ahead.

A little paragraph in our recent Gladden Farms, Marana AZ community association newsletter caught my eye today. Under "Important Announcements" was a little blurb entitled, "Wildlife Update".

It seems that the community developer had on his to-do list that it was time to remove an aged, HUGE Cottonwood tree within it's namesake subdivision.  It's mostly dead, and branches could easily fall and injure people using the pathways leading to the adjacent park.

The boom truck came in to plan the procedure for tree removal and -- the crew noticed a mother Great Horned Owl nesting in the middle of the tree trunk with a nest full of 6 eggs.

Important people were called in - Arizona Game and Fish Department, Owl relocation specialists - and the final word -- let nature take its course.

A pat on the back and standing ovation for Gladden Farms, Marana AZ developers!!!
The eggs are expected to hatch soon, if not already, and the owlets will be airborne within 2-3 months following hatching.

Meanwhile, take a gander through Cottonwood Subdivision, part of Gladden Farms, Marana AZ.  The nest is at the top of the main tree trunk, right where the tree splits into two large branches.  Looking for lovely SWDesert Homes for Sale.  Interested in Marana homes for sale? Cara:  That's each an interesting and touching story, Cara.

It also begs the question for each of us,

"If our ability to pay our bills was dependent upon our completing this project quickly, would we do the ecologically responsible thing and wait?"

I'd like to think that I would, but I'm not sure how I'd respond if I were really tested that way.  I wonder how many people would do the "right" thing.

Good luck with your area's progress.

Cara--It is good thing this developer was responsible enough to do the right thing...wildlife is so challenged these days. Hopefully there will be 6 new baby owls that will survive and thrive in Tucson soon!
