What's Your Favorite Toy?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with the Wallace Consulting Group

After just writing my very first blog ever : "What Did We Do Before GPS?"
I got to thinking......what is everyone else's favorite toy? By toy, I mean technology toy, or any type of gadget/ fun thing that makes your day and / or life easier.

Let me know what you can't live without (or would at least be really sad if you lost it). I am always interested in hearing about the latest things designed to make our lives easier and how they are working for you.

Although I have to say what is up with the lack of directions that come with these items! Things aren't as user friendly as they once seemed to be (at least to me). When I first got my Ipod I remember thinking..."Seriously, what would be sooo wrong with having an on/off button that is actually labeled on/off and not doing double duty as a play/pause button. It was a very expensive item, so I am thinking Apple could have found it in their budget to supply a "POWER" button - I digress.

Please share your thoughts here...I am all ears.

Thanks in advance!!

I'm with Mary, my treo and my laptop have paid for themselves 100 times over. They're lifesavers and they help me to be far more productive than my competitors.

I have a portable GPS, and it's been having some connection problems lately where it shuts itself off on bumps and resets itself.  I would not be able to do this job without the GPS.  I had to buy it because I realized that not only was it a pain, but that I was becoming a dangerous driver because I was reading directions and driving at the same time.  Of course, I also need my computer and phone, but that's a given.

I always take my laptop and my iPod everywhere I go.  My iPod has seminars and lectures by the great speakers of our time.  My laptop has my whole office in it.  When I get bored or tired of working, I can pop a DVD in my laptop, plug in my earpiece and watch a movie.  Nice!

Seeing that you are from Boston Erica, reminds me of a time when I was there with a Realtor friend of mine who brought her gps with her for our rental car.  We used it a lot to get around Boston.  I drove and she navigated but I refused to drive downtown.  We took the subway into town and ate at a well known seafood restaurant whose name escapes me.  We liked it so well that we wanted to go back, but I didn't want to go downtown, so we plugged its name into the gps and followed the directions she (we called her gypsy) told us to another location.  We drove and drove, and finally she said, congratulations, you have arrived!  We looked up and realized that we were outside the long term parking lots at the airport.  It had taken us to the airport because there was a very small version of this restaurant inside the airport.  We had to keep driving and never did find another one.  We laughed over that for some time.  Also, Gypsy doesn't work underground, so the "big dig" messes you up!

It is a well known local chain.   Simply Seafood? or something similar to that.  The one downtown is right on the water and it is very good.

My cell phone. It is a necessity. I am curious to know if there are any realtors who do not use a cell phone.

Even though its not new, I like my smartphone with Outlook Exchange Server. I no longer take my laptop when I go out of town (which makes air travel so much better).

My cell phone.  I'm a text message JUNKY.  Most of the time I don't check voice mails for a few days if they are from people I know personally.  My friends actually stopped leaving voicemessages.  If they don't get me when they call, they send me a text, haha.  I rarely leave it anywhere - I don't really remember what life was like without a cell phone, but it was probably a lot more peaceful :)

How ironic that I now work for a company that provides a text message marketing service... it's like heaven :)
