My Fab Four Are Coming To Town - It's Like Christmas In July

By

I have a big problem.  Four of my favourite singers/groups are going to be performing in my area in July and August.  Who do I want to see?  All of them.  But my pockets just aren't that deep.

I'm a huge Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty fan. I've been to 5 or 6 of their concerts over the past few years and for Mother's Day my husband surprised me and gave me tickets to see Rob at Casinorama in Orillia, Ontario on July 15th.  Kudos to my husband as I didn't even know about this concert.

Then I noticed that Counting Crows were also going to be performing at Casinorama just days before Rob Thomas on July 9th.  I also adore Counting Crows and Adam Duritz's dark, brooding songs and amazing voice.  They have performed at the Molson Ampitheatre in Toronto the past two summers and I enjoyed them tremendously.

The other day I noticed that Sir Paul McCartney was coming to Toronto on August 8th to play at the Air Canada Centre in front of 19,000 some odd fans.  Wow, Paul McCartney.  I have never seen him live and in person.  I was still a pre teen when Paul was a member of the Fab Four.  I remember in grade 7 or 8 playing Beatle albums at my friend's house after school.  Her mother worked at the local pharmacy and my friend's job was to peel the potatoes for supper every night.  I have no clue why I remember that.  Norwegian Wood was one of my favourite songs.

My memories of Paul McCartney playing with Wings takes me back to my later high school years.  How long will Paul be taking his music on the road?  Can I afford to go and see him?  Can I afford not to go and see him?

And that leaves last but certainly not least  Sir Elton John.  When I bought all his early albums he was just Elton John a.k.a. Reginald Dwight.  I would spend hours listening to his music on my portable turntable,  memorizing every song  when I was about 15 and 16. Tiny Dancer and Bennie and the Jets were my faves.

I can't say that I loved his later albums as much as the first few. Maybe I just got too busy with raising a family and not having a lot of time to just sit and enjoy music.  But he is an icon.  Someone I always wanted to go and see.  I missed him when he was in Toronto with Billy Joel a couple years back.  This time he is playing in Hamilton, Ontario at Copp's Coliseum on July 10th.

Three of my favourite singers performing the same week in my neck of the woods.  How did that happen?

I clicked on to Ticketmaster last night and could have bought amazing seats for Elton. They were over $150. each though.  I was SO tempted to press "Purchase" but I hesitated.  I decided I had to give it some more thought.

So I'm thinking.  And debating.  Who should I go to see?  I love every one of these performers.

How can I afford to see them all?  How can I afford not to?

I guess I still have the music in me.

I've had to let a couple of my great performers pass me by too so I will wish you all the best in making your decisions, Jenny.

Jenny, Well, I certainly hope you get to see some of these concerts. U2 is state of the art. The most expensive stage in history. And, don't miss Coldplay when they come by. Brian

Hi Jenny, That's a great line up, I can see why you are having a hard time deciding. Concert tickets are expensive, I remember when the Beatles came to Red Rocks in Denver - they were $6.00 - my folks thought that wasway too much money! :-(

Jenny:  You are right about Sir Paul.  How can you NOT afford to go see him play live.  And... if you had just been on your toes... you could have been invited to Rush Limbaugh's fourth wedding... and see Elton John up close and personal.  Ya dropped the ball on that one, Missy !

Hi Jenny, Just by the way you have written it up, I'd say you're leaning towards Elton, so if you have to pick one, I'd say go for the gold.

I'd love to see Paul McCartney and Elton John. The last good show I saw was John Mellencamp with John Fogarty. That was in 2005, and it was magical!

I vote Paul McCartney! But Elton John runs a close second ;).

You see I got to sit in the front row facing John Lennon when the Fab 4 came to Toronto many a moon ago LOL.

I'd sit further back this time though. If he's a lot older then so am I ;).

This is how you decide Jenny-Who have you seen and who haven't you seen?  The ones you HAVEN'T seen automatically get moved to the front.  Then-who would you be able to see again?  They automatically get moved to the back and there you have who you should see!

For Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney, my marketing guru thinks you should mortgage the house to go see them. He's seen Elton twice and McCartney I don't know how many times but too many to count.

Thanks Teral - every time they pass through I wonder if they will be back again.   Decisiona, decisions.

Hi Brian, I've never seen U2 or Coldplay.  Where have Coldplay been lately?

Hi Mary, how could you remember that??? You must have been a babe in arms then. lol.

Hi Marc, I wish I could wish myself listings that way lol.  Jenny wants to spend money.  Jenny needs a listing lol.

Hey Jim, is that you?  Or are you one of the one's with ghostwriters here on AR?  Didn't quite sound like you.  You ok? lol.

Hey Terry, Actually only Sir Paul is in Trawnta.  Sir Elton is lowering himself to play in Hamilton.  Rob Thomas and Counting Crows are in Orillia at Casinorama.  What's with that?  Funny I've seen Rob Thomas in huge venues and medium sized.  This will be relatively intimate with just over 5000 seats.

Hi Karen Anne -  Wow Elton was really stooping low for that gig.  Of course did I hear he made $1M. for playing.  So how long do you think the marriage will last anyway?

Hi Pam, It seems like everytime I turn on my XM radio in the car Elton is playing.  Is that a sign?

Hi Myrl, I love John Fogarty.  And he was alway so cute.

Hi Janice, Yes I do believe Paul must be adding a little black shoe polish to his hair these days.  From afar he still looks great.  Up close he is showing his age but he always had such a baby face like Donny Osmond.  You saw the Fab 4 up close and personal?  Wow I'm impressed.

Debra, you are so darned logical.  I love it when people tell me what to do.  It is such a pleasant change lol.  I'd love to take you with me.  Let's just get lunch in Elmira out of the way first.

Oh Jim you are making this so difficult for me.  I need the real estate fairy to visit right about now so I can go see everyone.  Or else maybe I should keep my daughter home for a year and I won't have to pay for her college tuition.  You can tell her ok?

Jim Frimmer told me I had to come by to help you out of your dilemma, so my suggestion is to forget about the first two and go see Sir Elton and Sir Paul. They are advancing in age, so this could always be the last time. You can't go wrong with them.
