I have a big problem. Four of my favourite singers/groups are going to be performing in my area in July and August. Who do I want to see? All of them. But my pockets just aren't that deep.
I'm a huge Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty fan. I've been to 5 or 6 of their concerts over the past few years and for Mother's Day my husband surprised me and gave me tickets to see Rob at Casinorama in Orillia, Ontario on July 15th. Kudos to my husband as I didn't even know about this concert.
Then I noticed that Counting Crows were also going to be performing at Casinorama just days before Rob Thomas on July 9th. I also adore Counting Crows and Adam Duritz's dark, brooding songs and amazing voice. They have performed at the Molson Ampitheatre in Toronto the past two summers and I enjoyed them tremendously.
The other day I noticed that Sir Paul McCartney was coming to Toronto on August 8th to play at the Air Canada Centre in front of 19,000 some odd fans. Wow, Paul McCartney. I have never seen him live and in person. I was still a pre teen when Paul was a member of the Fab Four. I remember in grade 7 or 8 playing Beatle albums at my friend's house after school. Her mother worked at the local pharmacy and my friend's job was to peel the potatoes for supper every night. I have no clue why I remember that. Norwegian Wood was one of my favourite songs.
My memories of Paul McCartney playing with Wings takes me back to my later high school years. How long will Paul be taking his music on the road? Can I afford to go and see him? Can I afford not to go and see him?
And that leaves last but certainly not least Sir Elton John. When I bought all his early albums he was just Elton John a.k.a. Reginald Dwight. I would spend hours listening to his music on my portable turntable, memorizing every song when I was about 15 and 16. Tiny Dancer and Bennie and the Jets were my faves.
I can't say that I loved his later albums as much as the first few. Maybe I just got too busy with raising a family and not having a lot of time to just sit and enjoy music. But he is an icon. Someone I always wanted to go and see. I missed him when he was in Toronto with Billy Joel a couple years back. This time he is playing in Hamilton, Ontario at Copp's Coliseum on July 10th.
Three of my favourite singers performing the same week in my neck of the woods. How did that happen?
I clicked on to Ticketmaster last night and could have bought amazing seats for Elton. They were over $150. each though. I was SO tempted to press "Purchase" but I hesitated. I decided I had to give it some more thought.
So I'm thinking. And debating. Who should I go to see? I love every one of these performers.
How can I afford to see them all? How can I afford not to?
I guess I still have the music in me.
