Southeastern Louisiana was hit very hard by Hurricane Katrina and now the BP oil spill is threatening the lively-hood and lives of seafood workers in the area!
This is a fantastic program that was put together to help these people who have been through so much! You can order a $1,000 bottle or a small bottle for $25 each!
Make sure you go to the website www.HorizonRelief.com to get more information! Shout out to Derenda for her great blog below to get the word out! Thanks, Paige
Leave it to the Souteastern Louisiana fishing community!
At a meeting designed to figure out what the out-of-work oyster shuckers, boat deck hands, and others could do to support their families due to the BP oil spil, someone yelled out as a joke, "We got a lot of oil!."
Within a week or so, an inspired group led by by Kevin Voisin (in the video on the home page of the website), created a nonprofit relief organization, Horizon Relief Corporation for seafood workers who have lost their jobs due to the BP oil spill.
They decided to bottle and sell the oil through the Horizon Relief Corporation. Talk about a crude souvenir!
Their website, HorizonRelief.comoffers several donation options, including a limited supply of numbered$1,000 bottles of actual oil in a bottle, called "Bottles of Hope".
The website list their purpose as follows;
"We are dedicated to helping subsistence workers bridge the financial and emotional gaps in their lives caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster. All too often government and corporate programs overlook the people who need help the most: the sunburn faced, strong handed, backbone of an industry. Incessant paperwork requirements, bureaucratic red tape, and excruciatingly slow pay outs have repeatedly battered this most vulnerable and least fortified segment of Louisiana in the aftermath of recent Hurricanes. Horizon Relief Corporation is designed to get money into the hands of struggling out-of-work individuals with unprecedented rapidity."
For those asking the question as to how you can help the families suffering from this disaster, please review the website, listen to the short but inspiring video and consider donating to this cause which is a hand-up, not a hand-out.
