TECHNIQUE IS THE KEY!  Believe it or not, I played high school basketball.  Mind you, it was a small high school and if you were the least athletic, you were encouraged to be on the team.  Even though I stand a whopping 5'4, I enjoyed learning the game and being a part of this team.

This was no ordinary team however!  This was Leta Mae Andrew's team!  I have written before about Coach Andrews with the post entitled, It's Time to Thank a Teacher.  One of the main points that Coach Andrews taught us was that above everything else, TECHNIQUE was the key to SUCCESS!

She stated over and over that it wasn't your size, your speed or your knowledge but it was your TECHNIQUE that made the biggest difference.  Certainly those other attributes contributed yet the skill and technique were the foundations that were not negotiable.

We spent hour after hour working on basic drills such as dribbling, shooting, running and passing.  Coach Andrews knew that if we were proficient at these skills, everything else would fall into place.  She must know what she is talking about as she is being inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame this summer.  She has over 1,000 WINS under her belt!

I have taken what I learned from Coach Andrews into my professional life!  What are the drills in real estate that I need to practice over and over to refine my game?

  • Communication skills
  • Negotiation skills
  • Listing presentations skills
  • Multi-tasking skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Time management skills

These are just a few of the skills necessary to be successful at any business and especially real estate.  Rather than haphazardly going about my business, I have taken the time to work on my skills and I continue to do so.  Without constant sharpening, training and practicing, these skills would not continue to improve.

So TECHNIQUE is the key to success and I am thankful that I learned from the BEST early on about the importance of building your skill set.  Thank you Coach Andrews!
