Brits in Minneapolis

Minneapolis is a long way from South Africa but the fans of soccer are not left out in the cold.  Many fans gather at Brit's Pub in downtown Minneapolis to watch the World Cup.  The place was packed on Saturday afternoon as the U.S. play England.  We ventured on the "sod" of England literally.  The roof of the pub is a lawn bowling green.

We stood shoulder to shoulder as the crowd was thick as we lifted our pints to cheer on the U.S. team.  This place rocked.  I knew of no other place to gather to feel the mood of the World Cup.

When visiting Minneapolis you do need to stop in and see the pub.  It opened in 1990  as a small two-room tavern and is much bigger but still is as charming.  The Veranda Bar is an outdoor rooftop bar overlooking the English Garden Park.  That is where you can see the teams show their abilities as they lawn bowl.  It is worth the trip up there.  The Clubhouse is a comfy cocktail and party lounge with view of the Nicollet Mall.  It has a sophisticated feel to our Midwestern town.

We might be a long way from the true action of the World Cup, but you can feel the buzz just hanging at Brit's.
