Being a Realtor I come upon many types of buyers in their search for a home. When a buyer couple or an individual starts zeroing in on what they're exact needs and desires for a home, (and this is true for not only first time buyers), the one question which hovers about is, "can this be a "home"? "
Existing or past homeowners usually have more clarity with their needs and can rule out a house in a matter of seconds; they have a much clearer perception to needs and desires, and the possibility of more closets, a real laundry room, entertaining possibilities, or an extra bathroom (the list can go on and on), these are not the only element that makes a home.
First time buyers are usually in a lower price range and sometimes, while searching for their dream home, disappointment ensues. I often say, "You can make any house a home with time, effort and most important, memories".
What creates home, anywhere, are the memories of family, the gathering of friends; shared experiences whether happy or sad, and the everyday nuances which define our days. Breaking bread with old and new friends, watching your child play in the garden discovering birds and bugs, reading a novel curled up on the couch on a rainy day, these are the moments that make a house into a home.
Any house can be a home as it takes shapes with the recollections, the things occupying the house or even the old tulip tree outside the kitchen window. No matter size or location; the memories that take form from days past, today, tomorrow and the laughter and tears forever live in our hearts and then again will be for someone else down the road.
Homes make people come together...
