Sometimes A Home Loved Lasts An Eternity
The story begins with a historic property I have under contract. It goes to settlement the end of this month. Today I received a message from the Sellers (who I represent) with a request. In part this is what it said: (Names were deleted)
We got a call from XXX, one of the owners of the home when we bought it. Anyway his older brother, XX, has died and in his will requested that some of his ashes be sprinkled around the house, at the tamarack tree out front in particular. I of course said "yes" but then learned that they want to have a small memorial service on July 24th. I told him it will be sold by then, but I would pass the word on to XXX.
Well.... I emailed the Buyer and this was his response:
I will certainly honor his wishes and allow the family access to the grounds and house on July 24. I think it is wonderful that someone felt that strongly about the house that they wanted their ashes spread in the yard. I can only hope that the house will generate the same feelings for me as I grow old.
This home was built in the 18th century. How wonderful that a home this old is still so loved. And how wonderful that I am the listing agent to share in this moment.
