Newsweek recently reported that 9 high schools in Allegheny and Butler counties are among the top 6% in the nation. The schools were ranked on the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests given at a school in a school year, divided by the number of seniors graduating in May or June. The nine schools were:
- Blackhawk
- Upper St. Clair
- Quaker Valley
- Pine-Richland
- Hampton
- North Hills
- Pittsburgh Allderdice
- South Fayette
- North Allegheny
- Mt. Lebanon
