Seattle Floating Homes and Houseboats, May 2010
Two floating homes sold in Seattle in May, a 2 bed 1 bath home in Westlake, and a 2 bed, 1.75 bath home in Eastlake. That brings the total floating homes and houseboats sold through May 2010 to six.
The trend for 2010 continues to be much stronger sales than in 2009. We had one sale in May 2009 of a houseboat, but it was the only sale for the entire year up to that point. We continue to see more buyers in the houseboat market, with sales rising along with the general real estate market.
While sales have started out strong this year, I'm guessing they'll get an even bigger increase through the summer if the new financing options come through. Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union has opened up financing recently on houseboat "vessels", even in rental slips.
Up until recently, these homes were only available as full cash purchases or through seller financing. This should allow more buyers, especially first time buyers, to enter the houseboat and floating home market. There are currently 5 Seattle houseboats listed for under $200,000.
