Do You DocuSign?

I know that in many markets DocuSignhas been around for a while but I have just recently started using it and let me just tell you I LOVE IT!!

For thoes of you who don't know, DocuSignis a service that allows you to send documents to clients for their electronic signatures.  It is super easy to use, saves time and paper AND keeps a transaction moving!

Here are just a few examples of how DocuSign has helped me and my clients over the past few weeks!

  •  I was ablt to get an offer signed, sealed and delivered while my clients were in the process of moving from Japan.
  • With another client, Docusign actually helped him get the upper hand and get the house he wanted.  The owners were going back and forth with some other buyers but their communications were taking lots of time (they were using fax machines).  Our offer came in while they were waiting for a response from the other buyers, we negotiated a bit, agreed on a number and I sent out the offer via DocuSign.  My buyers signed it, it was forwarded on to the sellers, they signed it and the listing agent and I got copies in our in boxes all within a couple of hours!
  • With a third client, I was home with a sick kid and a client who had no access to a printer or fax machine.  I was able to write and offer, send it to him have him sign it and get it to the listing agent all without leaving the house or killing a single tree!
  • My broker used DocuSign quite a bit at the end of April,  she had several buyers negotiating last minute offers and got several signed late in the evening on April 30.  There will be no question that her buyers got their offers in on time because DocuSign has record of when each party signed!

The fee runs around $25 a month and is well worth it!  You can even try it out for free before you buy.  So, if you are not already using DocuSign, I highly recommend that you give it a shot.  It may not be the solution for all your transactions, I know there will be some folks that are uncomfortable with using electronic signatures or perhaps are just uncomfortable with technology.  We still have the good ol' fax machines or scanners in that situation but for every one else...it can be a great way to increase the efficiency of your business!

I think it's an awesome idea. And reached out to DocuSign for more information to see if they have an application for iPad as well as per transaction plan, they deleted my question. Oh well, I'm still not discouraged yet but I haven't signed up either.

FHA is allowing digital signatures on all third party docs (including contracts). Hopefully that will translate to digital signatures on all loan docs. DocuSign or similar services could be a big benefit.

I really like the concept of eSignatures, it's certainly time efficient. However, I'm researching and comparing DocuSign to AgreeWorks. Lots of similarities, until it comes to "amending to the contract", now cost becomes a factor. I do expect to be onboard with one very soon.

It is a great product and is much better than faxing.  The only issue I experience is that when uploading a multiple page document (10 pages or so), sometimes the upload will "time out" and go back to the log-in screen.  It can be frustrating because then I have to be creative and separate out documents, etc.  Does anyone else ever have this problem?

I love docusign. The amount of driving I do has cut down by 10 fold! Life is great on tech wave!

Didn't know that I could try it for free.  Will give it a shot.  It might help to keep docs clean and crisp as opposed to the slop that you get when you re-fax... and re-fax... and re-fax.....

I'm also dealing with a seller who keeps handwriting his comments and conditions contracts, disclosures.  It's a pain the derriere to correct him and have re-fax.

Docusign is a great tool, but there needs to be more competition in this market to bring it's pricing into line.

Multiple $25 fees+ (you know the hands that are out for websites, SEO, MLS, licenses, business licenses, annual reports, superkeys, virtual tours) and you've got a very high level to get to just to break even annually.

It would be great if one company would learn how to package it all ... Top Producer, are you game?

I would love to use docusign.  I saw them at the NAR Expo.  Unfortunately my company haven't endorsed it yet.

Docusign is amazing - I have used it for years and years and consider it vital in my biz.  Great write up!

Tony Marriott commenter #34 introduced me to Docusign in 2007.  This is an AMAZING tool.  I have had some problems through the years.  Military blocks the link so it is hard to get electronic signatures from certain military members.  FHA disallowed it for a while and now they allow it.  Supposedly it is integrated into our zip forms somehow but I haven't figured it out.  I get RAVING reviews (still) from clients that use it.

To me when you save on ink, paper, time scanning and gas running around to get signatures - the price is ONLY a half a tank of gas for me a month.  I save MORE than that in the gas alone - or my client's gas if they were to come and meet me.

I've been using Docusign for years.....love it. No fax, no sitting in rooms writing contracts! I can list a home with a few clicks from my living room, kitchen, or boat :). We sometimes have to go back and do "wet" signatures for the banks but that's ok, I get my offers in easily and quickly.

YES!  Docusign is the greatest thing ever!  I've been using it for several years.  It certainly does make my life a lot easier and it takes some stress off of my clients as well.  So easy and fast.  So great to use with folks who are out of town or husband one city and wife in another.  IT'S AWESOME!

Jeanna,

As I've had many out-of-area buyers for vacation homes, I've been considering this. You may have just tipped the scale...

This is a must in todays tech savy market for both Relators and Mortgage Professionals!

We would love to use it. Unfortunately our board says it is not acceptable because you can't guarantee who the signer is...I know I know, but we move slowly here.

Wow - what an active group! This is great :)

Marcy, everyone in the transaction will have the ability to sign the documents. With our most recent release, we included a feature that enables complete closing in the cloud - buyers, sellers, agents and brokers.

Scott, Cheryl, we've written a blog post about using DocuSign Electronic Signature on the iPad - be sure to take a look!

Loreena - I'm really sorry about that - it shouldn't have happened. With "Designed for Mobile" you can use DocuSign on the iPad - I included a link above. There's also an app called ESIGNControl that's available from the app store. Right now, we do not offer per transaction pricing, just per envelope pricing after you get to a certain volume of envelopes.

Joyce, I hadn't heard of timeouts occurring. What forms provider are you using? You may be able to directly import (instead of upload) your documents into DocuSign - please ping me so we can figure it out - an.bui@docusign.com

DocuSign offers workflow capabilities and integrations that means that you can use DocuSign with your existing technology. If we don't offer an existing integration, we do offer free access to our API to allow for custom integrations. NAR has named us the standard for real estate, as we're the official and exclusive provider of eSignature services through the Member Benefits program.

For those of you who are asked for Wet Signatures, please let us know which lenders these are and who you're working with over at the lender. Our legal department can work with them to understand their concerns and escalate it appropriately - legal@docusign.com

Thanks so much for this great conversation! You guys are great!!

Best feature is templates! Just recently figured out how to use them on Docusign. Amazing! I spent no more than 30 minutes to set them up - now takes about 3 minutes to put all signature/initial tags on. Also, some of my clients now signed their paperwork on iPhone - right on the tennis court - in between games! Ha-Ha! They love it! Old or young, seasoned agents or new  - anyone who uses email can use docusign! Docusign does not pay me to promote them, Darn it!!!

The 30-day free trial is a waste of time.  You cannot get to the full version of the software.  Just bite the bullet and jump in without the trial.

I am considering Docusign for my iPad. I love the idea of putting all the doc on the iPad and then reviewing and signing electronically right there. The less paper to better. All the comments have been a great help. Thanks.
