Let's Get Wet in Central Texas

It's the lazy days of summer and if you want to get wet you need to plan on visiting any one of the following watering holes:Barton Springs Pool

#1 Barton Springs

This 1,100 foot long spring fed crown jewel is cool, clear and teaming with  life.  It is considered a favorite of all Austinites!  Located on Barton Springs Rd, next to Zilker Park

#2 Hamilton Pool

Hamilton Pool Reserve.  This sandy beach, 75 foot waterfall and huge rock formation is one of many reasons to visit this spot!  Located from Hwy 71 in Bee Cave to hamiltonHamilton Pool Rd, south 13 miles.  You would think it's the only water around - folks come from everywhere!

#3 Deep Eddy Pool

Cool water and huge shallow end make this a family favorite! Located west of Mopac, North of the river at 401 Deep Eddy Dr.

#4 San Marcus River

30 minutes south of Austin..tube it, snorkel it or swim it!

#5 Sculpture Falls on Barton Creek

Located about 1.3 miles upstream of the Mopac Bridge you must hike or bike to reach this urban oasis.

#6 Stacy Pool

Built in the 1930's by the Works Progress Administration.  Best to use during the winter months as it is heated by the natural warm spring.  Located on 800 E. Live Oak.

Krause

#7 Krause Springs in Spicewood

Privately owned this is one of the least know swimming spots but worth the drive on Hwy 71 west to Spicewood.  Dont jum the fence, they're watching!

#8 Hippie Hollow

Located on Lake Travis this is one of the few public swimming spots where clothing is optional which makes it an interesting stop!

#9 Blue Hole in Georgetown

Located on the San Gabriel River this is underdeveloped but worth the effort!  A small dam near the Austin Avenue bridge keeps water in this stretch of the river year-round and there is a grassy area on the riverbank good for picnics.

#10 Blue Hole in Wimberly

Located on Cypress Creek one quarter mile east of the Wimberly town square, this privately owned campground/swimming area attracts people from all over Central Texas.  Rope swings hang from the huge cypress trees that line the spring-fed creek.Blue Hole

Swimming Pools "Holes" in Texas are sacred to some, cherished by others and protected by all.  Swimming holes are like football teams they all have their own followers and supporters.  So, on your next visit to this unusual state stop in on a few of them, some you need to do before it cools off!

If you're thinking of relocating I'll be glad to assist you in making a smooth tansition.

Wow those are some really cool swimming spots.  I'm sure on hot days they must get pretty busy.  What would you say was the percentage of homes in your area that have pools?

Melanie, those are some really cool little swimming spots. If only I were a teenager again and had the whole summer off of school.

These are really some beautiful areas. And I see that at least one has the rope on a tree so you can swing out and make a big splash!

Hi Jenny -- That's a really interesting question -- I need to find out!  The percentage of homes with pools changes of course depending on the price range of the house.  What I do know is that of all the homes for sale right now in this area, almost 30% of them have pools.

Hi Malcom -- I agree!  I think I need to plan a weekend and take the kids.  Probably will pass on Hippie Hollow and the skinny dipping, though!
