I Fired Myself Yesterday!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with KGC Properties LLC, Tucson Property Management & Real Estate

It's tough when you come to the realization that you aren't a good fit for a job

Most people just quit.  But I don't like to quit ... so this time, I decided to fire myself!

Things that lead to my termination:

  • The Seller found a typo on the MLS listing information and insisted this showed lack of professionalism
  • The Seller's neighbor dropped his price by about $20k and I did not do anything about it
  • Buyer's agent had some brutal feedback about the condition of the home vs. price and why am I letting people say things like this about his home?!
  • But really, what did it was when I walked in the Seller's home, offer in hand, and he wanted to counter for a dollar less than his list price.

I spent just a few minutes signing the release forms, packing up the listing information and taking down my sign before I walked out the door.

I thought not taking a listing was a good feeling...this was even better!

Enjoy and value what you do and never be afraid to show it!

Great job, Gabrielle. Sometimes, it's better to walk away than to have problems in future. You did the right thing.

It is not always about the $ and yet by doing that you earn more $ because of your value.

This is something they don't teach new agents like myself. You want to take every client yet there are some that it just takes minutes to tell they may not be worth the headache. Good for you!

Life is short, and as Realtors we have to believe in the art of the possible. It does us no good to get bogged down in situations that keeps us from dealing with "honest brokers". Not saying that these folks lied outright, but when someone says they want our assistance to sell their home, then they do everything in their power not to, that is not honest.

Gabrielle,

Every listing is not always a good listing. Don't forget, we are interviewing clients also. If you don't feel you have a good working relationshipe it's best not to sign an agreement with them. Good Job!

Gabrielle,

Good Job! I agree, the customer is NOT always right! I would of done the same thing! Don't need every listing, just those where the seller is a "team" player. Now you won't have any negativity, and you can go on to the next client. Good luck!

Gabrielle,

Kudo's to you.  Knowing when it's time to fire yourself (and your client) is such an enlightened moment!  Doesn't it feel GREAT?  I have never looked back on those except to think, wish I would have fired myself sooner.

Keep up the great work.  You cannot help everyone, choosing who fits makes great business sense and more money!

All the best, Michelle

Gabrielle, it takes guts to do what you did.  But it seems like it was definitely the right thing to do.  Any more time and effort on this seller would most likely be wasted time.

Sometimes you have to wonder what some people are thinking?  Until we close, we get paid NOTHING, yet they think they can abuse you at their whim in the interim?  Sorry, life's too short to put up with tons of stuff that takes the joy out of it.  Way to go!
