Event calendar from The Toccoa Record, Toccoa Georgia. Not everyone gets the weekly news, so here are some up coming events and community services that may be of interest.

Monday, June 21

Overeaters Anonymous - Overeaters Anonymous meets for a Big Book Study on Mondays, 5 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church on Warwoman Road, Clayton. There are no dues or fees. For more information, call 706-782-7237.

Jr. Woman's Club of Toccoa - The Jr. Woman's Club of Toccoa is a community service club focusing on education, home life, conservation, the arts, support for Tallulah Falls School and foster care and adoption awareness. Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Toccoa library. For more information, call Dana Skelton-Sanders at 706-282-4645.

Board of Tax Assessors - The Stephens County Board of Tax Assessors meets the first, second and third Mondays of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the first floor meeting room of the Stephens County Government Building. Any called or rescheduled meeting will be posted at the meeting room as far in advance as possible.

Woodmen of the World - The Woodmen of the World meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the lodge on Homer Road. All members are encouraged to attend; periodic prize drawings are held to encourage attendance.

Currahee Rangers - The Currahee Rangers, Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 935, meets the third Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. The business session begins at 7:20 p.m., and guests are welcome.

Toccoa Shrine Club - The Toccoa Shrine Club meets at Quincy's the third Monday of every month. The meal will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow. All qualified Shriners and their wives are invited to attend.

Elks Lodge 1820 - BPO Elks Lodge 1820 in Toccoa meets the third Monday of each month at 8 p.m. Meals begin at 7 p.m.

TOPS - The Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) Club meets each Monday at the First Alliance Church of Toccoa on Highway 17, across from Wal-Mart. Weigh-ins are from 5:45-6:45 p.m. Meetings follow from 7-8 p.m. For more information, call 706-244-0814.

NARFE - Kay Ashby, former Blue Cross/Blue Shield representative, will be the speaker at the meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) meeting. The meeting will be held at Quincy's beginning at 11:30 a.m.

A.A. Family Group - Alcoholics Anonymous meets at St. Matthias Episcopal Church at 8 p.m.

Toccoa Rotary Club - The Toccoa Rotary Club meets at noon each Tuesday at the Gate Cottage Restaurant located at 896 Forrest Drive on campus. Web site: www.rotarycluboftoccoa.org.

Georgia Council for the Blind - The local chapter of the Georgia Council for the Blind meets at the Fernside fire station at 11 a.m.

Free yoga classes - Free yoga classes offered on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Panther Brook Spiritual Center in Turnerville. Reservations required. Call 706-754-7488 or check out the Web site www.pantherbrook.com.

Narcotics Anonymous - Narcotics Anonymous meets at the American Legion building on East Doyle Street every Tuesday at 8 p.m. The N.A. HelpLine number is 888-313-7887.

BINGO at Elks Lodge - BPO Elks Lodge 1820 hosts BINGO on the bottom floor of the lodge on Remsdale Road each Wednesday at 7 p.m. Buffet available by the Toccoa Elks Lodge.

GED instructions - Free instructions to get a GED Wednesdays, 1-3 p.m. at Hardee's in Toccoa, approved by Hardee's Corporation. Bring paper and pencil. Instructors are Barbara Allen, who has taught for North Georgia Technical College; Geneva Hambrick, GED, NGTC; and Linda Meyerholtz, GED, Athens Tech.

New Red Hat Chapter -A new Red Hat Chapter, Amethysts Violas, meets the fourth Friday of each month. Meet at 11:30 a.m. at Ingles/Belk parking lot up front by Big A Road and the mail box for a car pool to go to lunch and other activities. CASA - The Northeast Georgia Mountain CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program provides trained volunteers who advocate for children involved in abuse and neglect cases in juvenile court. Bilingual volunteers needed - Circle of Hope, a program for victims of domestic violence is in need of bilingual (Spanish speaking) volunteers to help with legal advocacy, mentoring and tutoring. If interested, contact Diane at 706-778-5151 ext. 28 or e-mail cohvolunteer@windstream.net.

Toccoa Amateur Radio Society, Inc. - Meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month, unless a holiday or HAM Fest is on that Saturday, then the meeting is held the following Saturday at the Salvation Army Church at, 348 E. Volunteers needed - Compassionate Hospice of North Georgia has opportunities available in which you can make a difference including music, reading, pet volunteer program, companionship to patients and families, sewing, floral deliveries, clerical support, birthday projects, assisting with special events such as BINGS, trivia and more. Local farmers' market - The local farmers' market will be held each Tuesday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. beside Farmer's Furniture on Hwy 17.

Stephens County farmers' market - The Stephens County Farmers' Market will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the old Payne's Alignment Center building on North Broad Street (next to Los Primos).

Babysitting training course - The Stephens County Recreation Department will have an American Red Cross babysitting training course. This course prepares youth with the training every parent wants in a babysitter-including safety, basic childcare, safe play, first aid and critical emergency action skills. The classes will be held on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants ages 11-15 may enroll. Participants must prepay $47 to register. No walk-ins will be accepted. Griffin reunion - The Griffin reunion will be Saturday, June 26 at 2 p.m. at the Martin Community Center.

Andrews reunion - The Andrews family reunion will be held Saturday, June 26, at New Hope Baptist Church on Highway 106 in Toccoa. Fellowship will begin at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon. Benefit ride/cookout - A Kayla Seymour benefit ride/cookout is set for June 26, beginning with registration from 8:45-9:45 a.m. followed by "kick stands up" at 10 a.m. (preregistration is appreciated). Proceeds will help pay for the funeral expenses incurred by the family of 21 year old Kayla Seymour. The cost for the ride/cookout or cookout only is by donation. The hour-and-a-half ride will leave from the Commerce Church of God in Commerce and end at Poplar Springs Recreation Area on Lake Hartwell in the Gumlog community of Lavonia. Lunch and drawing will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the pavilion under the shade trees. Pre-register, purchase tickets to the drawing and make donations online at http://www/bikersforkayla.myevent.com.
