With summer in full bloom right now, it's time to take a walk through Balboa Park to see the flowers, which also are in full bloom. Balboa Park had its beginnings in 1835 when California was still under control of Mexico. New San Diego City officials set aside 47,000 acres of land for recreational purposes. Part of that acreage is now Balboa Park, making it one of the oldest areas in the country dedicated to public recreation. With over 1,200 acres, Balboa Park is the nation's largest urban cultural park. Just some of the many attractions in Balboa Park Many of the buildings in Balboa Park were originally built for the 1915-1916 Panama-California Exposition and the 1935-36 California Pacific International Exposition. Part of the joy of Balboa Park, though, is that it's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is safe at night, and is a joy to simply walk, jog, or ride through. Today, we'll just take a short walk around the Lily Pond in front of the Botanical Building via a 29-picture slide show. Hope you enjoy it, and if you need a place to call home so that you can visit Balboa Park year round, please call me and I'll help you find that special place for you to call home.
