Our colleague, Liz, in New York sends us this timely reminder:

Via Liz Wallace (Century 21 Sherlock Homes):

I use to send out Monday morning blogs to my agents, really just rambling thoughts and ideas.  One blog I sent was that as of today, a proclamation has been sent out and everyone is responsible for their own happiness.  If you are not happy, do something about it.  I am not in charge of your happiness and do not wish for the job and there really is not enough money for me to take it on.

If you are happy then good for you, good job on yourself.  I am off the hook and will take no credit for your happiness any you are free from the job of  supplying  happiness to anyone else.  Is you spouse happy, I hope so, if not they need to get going.  Children, OK a little trickier but if they are over the age of say seven they need to start the daily activity of finding their own happiness.

I mean if people are unhappy you can nod your head and adopt your concerned face, but looking for ways to make them happy, nope, not an option.  Actually it is out of your control and really not in your job.

And so my gift to all is take the day off from worrying about others happiness and tend to your own.  Now that doesn't mean you get to be mean or try to make people feel unhappy.  Just busy yourself with yourself.

Hi Lottie,

Being happy is all about attitude and perspective. Whether one sees the glass as half full or half empty. No one can be responsible for someone elses happiness. I definately agree that no amount of money can pay one for that kind of responsibility.

Lottie, I love the message in this.... we are all responsibel for our own happiness... so true! and its time people stopped giving us that responsibility....

Good advice... thanks for posting.  I iwll send to a few of my colleagues who I think would benefit from reading.

Regards

Hi Shannon, I have a few quotes and thoughts posted near my desk. They motivate me, or keep me grounded, or whatever I'm in need of at the moment.
