dropping pianoSunday, June 20th, is the day for the Piano Drop Picnic In Cotati.  Larsen's Feed And Pet Supply (no relation) is the venue for this community picnic and Father's Day celebration.  Larsen's is located on the corner of Hwy 116 and Stony Point, the festivities will be from 2:00 to 5:00PM.

Six pianos that have been uniquely decorated by non-profit organizations will be auctioned off to benefit the Cotati Arts Project.  This Project has been created to continue to bring arts to the community during this time of economic woe.

Bring your picnic basket or buy your lunch at Larsen's.  Spread out your blanket then join in the fun with horseshoes, gunnysack races and of course, sign up for the pie eating contest. The cost is $5.00 for adults, those under 18 get in free!!

The grand finale will be a non-functional piano dropped 120 feet from a crane.  The purpose is to symbolically demonstrate what happens to a non-profit that slips through our fingers in these tough financial times.

Dropping a piano from 120 feet to make a point is certainly different!  Wow.  Sounds like a fun filled day and very reasonalbly priced.

I've heard of decorated fire hydrants, decorated sculptures (or paper mache "sculptures"), but this is a first for pianos.  Very fun!

Barbara - all of the pianos are uprights.

Sue - we have a lot of free and/or low priced events in Sonoma County.  Makes it nice to be able to take the whole family out and not break the bank.

Craig - I won't but I'm sure it will be up on youtube this evening.  I'll look for it.

Margaret - it was fun to see the pianos all over town, better yet to hear them being played.

Although I appreciate the charitable event, I just can't agree with a piano drop because not everyone will understand that it's a non-functional piano. I think it subconsciously tells many people that it is okay to abuse musical instruments.

Russell - don't let Zoey The Cool Cat read this post, you may need to go hide your musical instruments!

Well, I think everybody could have paid $10 each, be handed a sledge hammer and given the opportunity to wallop that piano at least once.
