My South Tampa home needs regular pest control.  We live in the heart of Tampa Bay and thus have lots of bugs to contend with.

While researching different pest management options, I found a Eco-friendly solution from a local pest provider, Florida Bug Runners, Inc.  Dave Patrias who owns the Florida based termite and pest control company informed me of a new EcoSMART(r) pest control product.

Dsc00910 Many South Tampa homeowners are looking for ways to become more GREEN and implementing eco-friendly pest control is a great way to protect our environment, families and pets.

Dave provided me with some great information about the EcoSmart products, which are a blend of botanical oils that effectively target pests, not people or pets.  I found that the plant oil active ingredients target and block a key neurotransmitter receptor site found in insects, however mammels do not have the same receptors, so there is no adverse effect.  Many of the plant oils are approved for food and beverage consumption by the U.S. FDA.Dsc00912

Listen to Dave tell us more about what he does and these Green Friendly Home Products:

I gladly promote the service of Florida Bug Runners and encourage any South Tampa or Pinellas County home owner to call Dave at 727-733-2700 or email him at floridabugrunner@verizon.net for the same service.  If you are looking for a Tampa mortgage, Dave is also available for inspections!

Leah, Great post and information for becoming more environmental friendly in South Tampa, FL. I know of a company here that uses direct heat instead of chemicals to get rid of termites.

Leah - thanks for the mention and I agree David's company does an amazing job. Before meeting him - I'd never know of a Tampa Bay Pest Control company to actually "sweep down" the whole outside so that their treatment is that much more effective and having pets and kids - I was shocked at how normal pest control can build up huge amounts of chemicals inside our homes. Great article - love learning about more ways to live "eco-friendly" in Tampa Bay, FL.

Leah, Oh my gosh! This is great!  I am trying to find one in my area.  I don't like all of the chemicals that my company uses.  I need to get on the ball and find one.  Thanks for the motivation and GREAT post!

I have a company that uses organic pest control, but not necessarily eco friendly.  I wonder how eco friendly it might be....

Leah - does using mother nature's night air to cool our home instead of AC count?  Love this pest inspector's name

Leah what a great post about ecofriendly pest control. I remember living in an apartment several years ago that used a product that was so strong I had to stay out of the apartment over night. I went back in the evening to get something and got the shakes for about 10 min. I finally got them to agree to let me get my own company. According to what I read on the web that chemical that they had been using was banned on golf course because it was killing the birds!

My pest company uses all non toxic chemicals so I do not worry. They are also odorless. They are pretty effective.

Mana ~ Thats sounds like a great solution as well!  I have not heard of a heat solution for termintes...sounds like something we should find out here in Tampa!

Chris ~ Thanks for the comment ;)  I love awesome pest control, I hate bugs!

Cyndee ~ So true!  I think Dave does such a great job.  He is so affordable and he doesn't charge extra for the Green products or the extra services, like sweeping down the house.  He is a keeper!

Missy ~ Hopefully you can!  You may want to check the EcoSMART link in the post, they might have a list of provider available!

Stephanie ~ Thank you!  You are my GREEN mentor ;)

Chris ~ It's a great question.  I did some research and found out that pest control companies are one of the biggest polluters because of the toxic chemicals most of them use.  It's scary.

Lynda ~ LOL....wow, what a compliment!  If you don't see me around the rain for a while, it's because i'm out working on my own show..haha!

Thesa ~ I would say every little bit counts ;)  I can't wait to open the windows down here and enjoy the air.  I would say that will be around the end of January, one day if we are lucky ;)  Good for you for conserving energy!!

Ashley ~ Oh my gosh!  That is horrible!  Can you imagine what those chemicals would do to children or a small pet...terrible!  That's one thing I really like about these chemicals.  If my dog decides to be a dork and start licking base board, he won't be any less smart then he already is..lol!

Maggie ~ Thanks for the comment!

Neal ~ Way to be green my friend!

Teri ~ It's such an easy thing to do that makes a big difference!  One small step at a time, we can all make a difference!  Thanks so much for the comment!

    Leah,

Solid information. We do have some life-threatening pests here like scorpions and such, so I have to check if these eco-friendly products will zap them. But yes, from now on the nuisance pests are going have a date with these botanical oils and we'll see.
