For Sale By Owner

By
Home Stager with Creative Staging Company

First, I apologize in advance if this question has been asked fifty thousand times. : ) My question has anyone had any luck marketing to for sale by owners? I have been searching the for sale by owner listings and thought about sending out some post cards to the owners. But will I be wasting my money and time?

Thanks!

I have 2 answers for you:

  1. Why not. It's always worth a shot. Every market is different.
  2. I've tried it (a couple years ago) and it didn't work for me. Houses that are FSBO 99% of the time are so typically because they are want to save every penny they have and don't want to pay for a Realtor's commission.  Therefore, may or may not have the $ to want/spend on Staging.

If you do try it, let us know how it works out for you!

I agree with Connie, if sellers wants to save on agent why they would hire a stager? I sent postcards also with no luck (not too many maybe) and I had listed my company in one of their websites. No luck either. FSBO sites have some info on DIY staging and I think owners assume that that's enough.

Please, let us know if you will find your way. Best of luck!

Tia, sellers that contact me directly have been my BEST clients, but not necessarily those going FSBO.  However, I'm with Connie...give it a shot.  All that you need is one job to pay for the expense of the mailing.

Tia- ditto to what the others have said.  There's certainly no harm in trying and everything to be gained.  You never know, a seller who wants to save on a Realtor's commission may still agree to a small investment in staging.  Please let us know how it works out!!

Years ago when I first staged my business I had a few consultations with FSBO. I found they did not see the value in the investment but times have changed...give it a try! Give us an update.

Putting your name in front of a FSBO is never a waste of time. Best of luck. Where is action there is reaction.

Thanks so much for all the comments. I think that overall everyone agrees that it is worth a try however it may not yield positive results. I think I am going to send a few out and see what happens. I agree that anything is worth a try! I will keep you all posted.

Thanks again for the help!

I'm thinking about marketing to FSBOs, but targeting the Staging Consultation and Report, because the deliverable is essentially a DIY.  Just as these sellers rely on certain websites to provide the how-to-sell, we can provide a specific how-to-stage!  Julie
