The San Diego Zoo seems to be overrun with peacocks lately.

This is the first year that I have seen baby peacocks, and there sure are a lot of them.

Since all the mommy peacocks are taking care of their little baby ones:

the daddies are out looking for new mommies:

According to one of the Zookeepers, the reason why there are not more peacocks than what they have is because at night the great blue herons find the little peacocks and, well, make a meal out of them.

In some cases, the male peacocks will make a pass at just about anything:

Hmmm. Reminds me of a certain tiger and some cheetahs. Ah, but I digress.

If they get no response, they'll move on to the next possibility:

Yeah, you're pretty. So what. Still not interested.

They're great birds to look at but really noisy.  I worked on a farm when I was a kid that had a peacock pair and it seemed like you could hear them for miles.

A perfect example of 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder!' I once saw a father peacock at the end of my driveway trying to teach a little one how to shimmy, hilarious and oh, so precious watching that little one shake and stumble all over the place. Great stuff Russel!

Russel, I enjoyed your narrative and those great photos to go with it.  I thought of Shania Twain's song, "That don't impress me much" when looking at some of the pics.

I love those pics! Our neighbors behind us have peacocks, and sometimes they get stirred up at night. They sound like cats crying! I love all animals.

Russel,

We missed seeing baby peacocks our last visit to the SD zoo. But I'm not sure I would have recognized them if they weren't with a parent.

Believe it or not, Russel, we have a neighborhood here that has peacocks just roaming around, walking the streets. It is fun to show there and see the clients reaction. I love them! Dick's dad had some on their farm when our kids were little.

Hi, Russel. Well, this is today's chuckle! These pictures are very amusing...you are so clever.

It's interesting that the baby peacock is so ordinary looking.

Russel,

My absolute fave is the dispplaying peacock in front of the duck...you can almost see the duck's expression, "What the....?!"

Hey, everyone!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I've been very busy, but today I'm trying to follow up on these older posts like this one to see if anyone had any questions or if I really need to respond to anyone's comments.

I will read all the comments and respond to any that need a response, but since this post is rather old, rather than making comments here in my post to each and every one of you, I'll just let everyone know that I have read all the comments and if there are any questions, I'll answer those in comments below this one. Otherwise I'll simply post this comment and then head over to your blogs soon to visit and do some reading and commenting. I hope you'll have a nice welcome mat out for me!

Don't forget to let your cat come out to play with all the other ActiveRain kitties. Your cat-friendly dogs can come, too!

If you need a great cat book, get yourself a copy of Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days.

Hope all is well with everyone.
