ok folks, here we go again with another hair post. This one is a little different. The last one was to donate the hair for wigs for children with diseases that cause hair loss. That is Locks for Love based out of Lake Worth in Palm Beach. >here is that old post, man my hair was long!!<

Today I am asking for your donations to help another non profit agency, Hugs for Kids. A non-profit agency that  works to prevent child abuse and neglect by teaching expectant mothers how to care for their babies and provide a safe environment with support and aid.  Their mission statement is on their site, just click the link above.

Jim Jacobs is dying to cut that hair!!Here what i'm willing to do. I will shave my head down to almost nothing with a #1 clip, film it, post it so you can have a blast watching it, over and over.

MY GOAL IS TO RAISE $5,000. I'm asking for a $20 donation per person, but will accept anything you can or are willing to give. With the amount of people here, a $5,000 goal is very feasible. That's 250 people at $20 and seems very realistic considering the number of people we have on AR.

100% of the proceeds will go to Hugs for Kids, and specifically the Healthy Families Program. The money is for basic necessities to help support these families. We are talking about diapers, formula, high chairs, new car seats, bus passes for medical checkups, thermometers (which there is a great lack of), baby clothes and whatever else is needed.

A wish List will be put up on www.shaveyourheadforcharity.com (soon) along with the running total of how much money is donated (done!) and hopefully some pictures,if the agency will permit it.
Also, donors will get their name and business info on the site with a link back to their site if they wish.

I'm open to ideas for things to put up on the site to make it a success. It's a wordpress blog so that people can leave comments and it can be more interactive. email me your ideas via my profile.

This is my first time doing something like this at this level, but I am confident with your support and others near me, that it can be done and make a BIG difference in the lives of MANY families.

-->> **EDIT** We are accepting checks at the address below, made out to Hugs for Kids... and hope to turn in the first batch of checks on Friday of THIS week!!!!  <<--

Reason for this is to make sure the cash goes to the correct program within Hugs for Kids, which is Healthy Families. If you are set on claiming your donation as a deduction, becuase you're going to donate a HUGE amount ;), then you can freely donate directly to the company and MAKE SURE to put HEALTHY FAMILIES PROGRAM on the memo section of the check. If not, it may go into any of their programs!! Here is their donation form.

Any takers willing to donate and/or blog about it and point back to this post or the website? please say yes!
if you're still undecided, check this out, single mother with a child with cancer... and two more children.
(i actually donated time and my truck to take donated furniture to this young lady)

date for head shaving is Saturday, September 15th, 2007 :)
location is unknown, but likely to be private.

FOR DONATIONS: the 'before' picture

Make checks out to: Hugs for Kids

in the memo put:  Healthy Families - client's incentive

Hi Fran, i don't get called that everyday!  i mean my full name, no the wacky part,. that's normal :)

Thanks Fran! :) If you want to write a check, you can go to their website and fill out their form and mail it to them, make sure to put Healthy Families in the memo section on the check. They have a little form to download on their site.. or you can hold off, and once i open the account (soon), you can deposit at any Bank of America into an account under my name.

Uncle Nicky, let me know when you have that account open.  I'm in.

I missed your Locks of Love post.  Tall One would love you for that one.  She has had hair issues of her own in the past, but she has long, beautiful hair now.  I tried to donate my hair to them but it's bleached, they wouldn't take it.  :o(  She told me not to feel bad if she can't donate her hair, even though she knows other kids might need it.  She wants to keep it and by God she's EARNED it.  What a sweet kid.  And thank you for helping other kids.

Seriously, make sure I don't miss it when you open that account.  Email me or something if you don't see me comment.  I'm in.

Hi Fran.. i think its the easiest idea for everyone to make the deposit and then to show all the totals in the end :)

Hi Lysa, i'll set up the blog this weekend and the bank account on Monday at the latest. thanks for your help, i'll email you next week :)  if you have experience in this, i'd love to hear any suggestions!

Hi Sarah, thanks for your support :) sorry to hear that TO's past had her without the long hair she has today. Give her a big hug from the future BO (bald one ;).   Sarah, there is NO way i can't do something while i'm seeing all this money in real estate and these homes and such, and then i see the fight these kind folks have when i'm delivering furniture or supplies. Some say i have ableeding heart, but i just can't help it. You would do the same, trust me :)

i think that if you all stay subscribed, i'll just insert a comment with a link or the acc#'s and then delete it, but you'll have it in your email, so be on the look out!! :)   you ladies rock.. thanks!!  245 to go! haha!! :)

Nick, I am on the Bikes & Blues for St. Jude Committee, I will answer what ever questions I can. Is Hugs For Kids Non Profit? (the link to their website didn't work, but I am betting the answer is yes) Make sure you have a 501C3 certificate from Hugs For Kids before you set up the bank account. This will show the bank and the IRS that this money is not to be taxed.

Hi Maggie.. that sounds like a plan. thanks for the help!! :)  trust me, i wont be any better looking, its all downhill for me as the hair get shorter! :) haha  i'm sure the rainers are gonna enjoy the look to get their kicks.

Lysa, thanks for the heads up. they do have the certificate, but for a few reasons i doubt the org will openening the account. i'll talk to my accountant and if necessary, i'll open a corp, llc or something. and i'll tell you, if i gotta pay taxes on the difference of what is collected and what i can deduct on my taxes, then so be it. i'll pay and just donate some time doing appraisal work. i minor inconvenience for me is nothing compared to families lacking basic necessities. :)  again, i appreciate the heads up!. if i'm missing the point, lets talk so you can clarify for me. thanks! :)

today i combed my hair a few extra times. amazing how we take things for granted, until its gone.. or almost in this case! :)

Nick, no you are not missing the point at all! You rock my friend! Taxes on 5K and taxes on 29K are 2 different animals. We didn't know about this our first go round with St. Jude and the folks that opened the account almost had to pay or did half to pay taxes on the 29K we collected that year. Year 2 we tried like heck to get an account opened here in St. Jude's name as to not pay the taxes on it so that all the money would go to the hospital and kids and even with St. Jude's information the bank for some reason couldn't do it. We ended up asking that people write the checks out to St. Jude, we raised 39K this last time. :).

Hi Lysa.. seems like you've been there already. so i'll shave it again for tax time!! :) haha :) j.k.you folks sure raised a lot of money!! congrats on that!! i asked my wife last night and there are 200 families, so i started dividing my goal by that and was like.. how much per family.. but she assured me that any monies will help buy diapers and things that are really needed. so i'm feeling better :)

Hi Rob.. thanks for your comment.. i'm just a little guy. the supports are the ones to pat on the back :)

Nick, yes, once you get into the nitty gritty of the money and amount of people that need help, 5K doesn't seem like a lot does it? But it does help! It costs St. Jude 1.2 million a day to run and we figured out we raised enough money to pay for 10 minutes or something. Doesn't seem like a lot does it? I felt the same way you did. Think of it this way, that is 5K more then they had before! And your wife is right, imagine how many diapers that 5K can buy!
