Help! I need advice I have a teach a class to my peers about Active Rain

By
Real Estate Agent with Exit Realty Achieve

I have been asked by my broker to hold a class on Active Rain, for the other agents in my office. My office is fairly new and many of the agents are older and less computer savvy. However, they are all great hard working people, whom I love working with. I am sure that they will be interested in learning about the site and my experience with it. I am obviously going to discuss the basics of what they site is, how to log on and sign-up. However, I would appreciate some input on what you thing I should highlight. I have about 45 to 60 minutes and the use of a conference room with large screens hooked up to a computer.

I have only utilized Active Rain for a few months myself so I could really use your input. Thanks in advance for any advice!

How fun!  I would cover some things on blogging in general like a basics of keywords and SEO so they understand the 'why' of why AR and blogging are important!

Daniel, I just ran across this post that Brad Andersohn put together the other day.  I think it would be perfect.

Hi Daniel-  Being an 'older' Realtor - I was not in the mindset of social networking....I actually am active in active rain, have made many good contacts and thoroughly enjoy getting 'away' from my business on a different level....I think it is GREAT you are intorducing this to your office.... my office has a lot of older 'set-in- their- way' guys and don't think they are ready yet to accept all the social networking....I look at it as fun and creative!

Hi Daniel - I would start with a couple of quick stats from NAR about how 80% or more of buyers start their search for homes online. (And for listing agents that means that your marketing better be strong online in order to be found by those buyers). Then go into the difference between a static website and a continually updated blog, and the importance of providing fresh content to Google and your readers. Finally, how can your agents easily provide that content? ActiveRain!

I know a lot of "older" realtors who are here on AR and who would like to be.  I would let them know there is a lot of help.  Check out the newbie group, check out Brad's post above... and let them know the ambassadors are there to help them. All they have to do is call!

Daniel, in 45 - 60 minutes you're only going to be able to cover a few things and give them the focus and time that they need.  Accordingly, you should really try to limit the "Intro to ActiveRain" session to just a few high-level topics.

In other words, the most important thing you can do is be very careful of what is going to be the natural inclination to cover too much.

And use the KISS principle = Keep It Simple Simon!
