Thanking Our Troops...Give Them The Sign

I live in an area with a high military population and that's fine with me.  Many times when I meet a soldier or am fortunate enough to have one as client I always thank them for their service to our country.  Have you ever passed a soldier on the street or anywhere and maybe felt a little awkward about going up to them and showing or telling them of your appreciation for what they are doing?

Take 30 seconds out of your life and watch this clip and then give the next soldier you meet the sign of your gratitude and telling them...they are appreciated.

Nick it goes beyond showing appreciation, it can get emotional as it is acknowledged that somebody does care besides family. Thanks for sharing

I was a military contractor for 10 years to the Army and Marine Corp. We did the first automation on the USMC casualty reporting system in the early 1980's. I know what the armed forces and their families lives are like...it is truly a sacrifice and Service to our country.

Nick, That gave me the chills. I will be sure to thank them from this day forward! I too always want to and sometimes don't want to invade their "space". This is perfect. Have a great day my friend!

Stephen-thanks for your comment and stopping by.

Jackie-good for you and I don't think they do either.

Ed-I like to thank the soldiers that I meet today but make a special effort to thank the WWII vets that I know.

Steve-thanks for sharing that...something we would not have known otherwise.

Laura-thank you...never forget.

Karen-and I know that you do especially having a Marine for a husband.

Beth-I think that most would not consider it an invasion of their space, of course you don't know what the situation of each soldier is that you meet, but for the most part I think the gesture is appreciated.

Suzanne-thank you so very much...they deserve all the recognition they can get.

Nick it is awkward to do that, but it needs to be done.  And believe it or not, it is awkward to be on the receiving end, but it does feel good when it happens.

Nick...THANK YOU! for sharing this. We didn't know that is the hand signal for thank you!!  We always stop and shake the hands of anyone is the services that we see. This really touched us Nick because we just heard another Canadian was killed in Afghanistan, just 28 years old, his fourth tour of duty there. We need to show our gratitude.

Christine-thanks, it's not easy to watch this and not get a little choked up by it.

George-I can understand the awkwardness, but once done I know how much better I feel and I think it's appreciated.

Al & Peggy-I've always shaken hands, this is also the first time I've seen this sign used this way.  I know that it's American Sign Language for "thank you".  I'm sorry for your loss...28 years young.

Dawn-thanks, this is the first time for me...like I said...easy to get choked up over it.

Debra-I don't think they get enough recognition and then you hear some of the horror stories of returning vets being treated badly by the system they are defending.
