8th Grade Promotion

Junior High is over. It is time to move up to the "big school". Today the 8th grade class at Hill Creek School in Santee were "promoted" to the 9th grade.

As I watched the excitement of the parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins....memories of my 8th grade promotion......did we even HAVE 8th grade promotion? Am I THAT old I can't remember? It was only, let's see, (counting on my fingers) (crap, I don't have that many fingers) 28 years ago.....

Boy these kids looked so young, but so grown up! I was attending this promotion for one of my favorite girls, Mariah. (star of mmmm Cupcake!) Our families have been friends since Mariah was 2 and her mom and dad introduced me to the love of my life, my husband Steve! It is unbelievable the time has gone by so quickly! Mariah has grown up to be a beautiful young woman and we are proud to be a part of her life!

So many kids, with so many great accomplishments! It was fun to see the awards given, to hear the ASB President speak, the "Little Buddies" giving their "Big Buddies" appreciation certificates. So much to be proud of! It was a great day!

For all of the proud graduates today: "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

We were just having this conversation the other day-all these graduations at all the different grade levels.  What a beautiful girl she is!

We didn't have promotions, but we always hoped that the little PROMOTED word on the back of the final report card was circled.

We didn't have any sort of a promotion ceremony either. Like Jim in his comment, the teacher simply circled PROMOTE or FAIL on the final report card. The only ceremony was for graduation from high school.
