Need another idea for generating new business?  Consider this.

The front page of the LA Times business section was dominated today by a huge article on the mortgage meltdown.  Nothing new, there.  But one little article tucked away in the corner about the stock market did catch my eye.  Titled Need a shrink?  Call your broker, it started out like this:

"Is the crazy stock market driving you crazy?

Don't worry. To cope with the turmoil on Wall Street and beyond, financial advisors are forging professional alliances to provide their clients with psychiatric help. An advisor will work to keep a portfolio balanced while a psychologist will do the same with the client -- and, on occasion, the advisor."

Why just limit the fun to the stock market?  I talk to real estate agents and brokers all day who tell me the market is making them crazy and I'm sure their clients feel the same.  Why should the financial advisors hog all the good business generating ideas?

What do you say?  Does anybody out there have a good shrink I can put on speed dial?

I agree that sometimes not being the average broker in the shirt and tie has worked out for me...and making light of the mortgage fiasco/current market, is what some people are looking for right now as long as you're knowledgeable about real estate. That and a positive attitude are more assuring than a doomsdayer...

That is going the extra mile! I like the look of your blog, it reminds me of a stained glass window (at first glance)

Sometimes I FEEL like a psychiatrist, therapist, marraige counselor, divorce counselor ... It is part of our job - as we are wrapped up in very emotional times in our clients' lives.

Rondel, I'm a big fan of keeping things light, but respectful.  That can be a delicate balance, but usually only works when you know your stuff.

Thanks, Todd & Danielle!  I just read Mariana's post last night about changing up the backgrounds and thought I'd try it out on a fun post.  I wanted green (for money), but couldn't find a green light enough to read the words.  The beige was my 20th try.  Kind of reverent for my very irreverent post, isn't it?

Why take all that on, Mariana, when you can expand your team and let somebody else carry the heavy stuff?  ;-)

I sometimes think my clients need a shrink after dealing with the crazy real estate agent... but I think they mean "crazy like a fox".

I would imagine that there is a shrink for that, too, Lane.  I'll let you know if I get a recommendation.  =-)

Tracy, If they had a "sane" investment program they wouldn't need a shrink.

But they don't.  You don't have any recommendations to share, I take it?

Oh Tracy, thanks for the opening. Of course I do. I have written at least a dozen posts on investing. Come see for yourself. All very sensible and sane.

Ah Bill, I meant shrink recommendations.  By the way, I read several of your posts.  Good stuff!
