Marte:  This is a great idea.  I think that you, personally, should make one of these signs as well, and get yourself down to one of your nicer public squares in Priest River, and start giving away those free hugs.  Make sure you have a place to sit down and rest, and take some water with you... because I am sure the line for the hugs will be long.  <smile>  And... please save a hug for me, ok ?

You're welcome Harry - I'll pass that along to the friend who sent it to me.

Karen - I might do it with a crowd, like they did. Would never have the guts to do it alone. And not in Priest River. We don't have any public squares! But if you ever get here, I'll definitely save a hug for you.

Marte:  Bless your heart, my dear.  When I watched that video... I was starting to feel badly for the guy and the gal... with them not having any takers.  I ended up "rooting" for them, and then felt so much better when people started warming up to them.  Again... the cool things we find on You Tube.  Thanks so much...

Karen - I had the same reaction. At first thinking that everyone was going to ignore them. But then, when they started getting takers and everyone was so busy smiling, I found myself sitting here grinning from ear to ear.

Marte, to bring a smile to someones face is so worth going the extra mile.  That is what keeps us going in our industry, because of not only the financial reward, to see someone being handed the keys to their new home with the biggest smile on their face and getting a hug from them.

Thanks, all. It was fun to share this.

As well as a smile giver, this really is a message about not giving up... and about how much we all need each other as human beings.

Marte.....Great video with a wonderful message.  It showed people were a little slow to warm up to the idea, but as things progressed the hugging caught on.  It brings smiles to the faces and I'm sure it made them all feel good, if only for a few moments.  It is a great idea!

Marte, thanks for sharing this.  I'm a hugger, and I'd love to see this craze in the U.S.

We all need one.  There are plenty to go around and they don't cost a penny so lets start giving them out.

I never was a hugger - raised in a "don't touch anyone" family. But the older I get, the more I like hugs!

I was sad at first because no one was getting a hug. Then I think the eye contact of the huggers became more persuasive and then after the first few were given, everyone decided to give in and accepted and gave a hug back. I love the music and I love the whole idea. I was smiling from ear to ear as I watched the faces of the the huggers and the hugged.  Lucky me to have seen this video. :)

I loved this. It was neat!! Does anyone know who sang this version of "Halleluhah"? It sounds a bit like Crystal Bowersox from this year's American Idol. I seem to recall she sang it on there. I may be wrong.

Any huggers in Lincoln, Nebraska feel free to email me and we can arrange a hug. I love hugs!! :-)

Hi Alan - I'm not good at knowing who sang a song - unless it's Elvis or Dean Martin, of course. (Yep, just dated myself.)

I'm a long, long way from Nebraska, but if I ever get there I'll look you up for a hug!

That's amazing - this little post has been kicking around since June and is still moving.

I guess it just goes to show that all of us like to smile and feel good!

Remember the story about the Chicken Soup books - and how publishers turned them down because "nobody wants to feel-good books." The truth is, we do!

Thanks for letting me know!

Marte:  I am not sure if this is kd lang singing this.  Her voice doesn't sound as "crisp" as kd's... although it could be.

Here is a link to a video post I did about eight months ago One of Canada's Wonderful Gifts to The World... that featured kd lang singing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."  The song is beautiful, and Ms lang's version is angelic.    January 15, 2011

Thanks for sharing this video. When I was growing up that is how we always greeted our friends and familes and when we left them. I still do that today with my few family and friends I see today. Times have changed , so a person don't get to see as many people later on in life. Thanks again. That was wonderful !

Victoria - You were raised the opposite of me. I grew up in a "Don't touch anyone" family. A hug and kiss from Mom, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa was the extent of it. Could that be why I think hugs are so special and wonderful now?

Judy and Tammie - You could always organize a group in your own hometown and just Go Do It!

Think about the people in your area - would they go into shock? Who could you get to go along with it? A group of high school or college students, perhaps?

It's kinda fun to think about it.

Our very small town doesn't have a space like that where people come and go, so I'm picturing people walking out of the grocery store or the post office and being greeted by someone wanting to give a hug...

Marte:

This is a great video.  I would have thought that everyone in Italy would have wanted a hug, they seem so demonstrative.  I don't know if American cities would be so easy to hug a stranger.  Nice video.

What I want to know... how come this year and a half old post is suddenly being noticed again?

Evelyn - I suppose it would depend upon the city, but yes... Americans might give you a whack instead of a hug!

Susan - Smiles are always good, no matter where or how we get them.

Hi Marte,

Mo Anderson of Keller Williams says - :We need 9 hugs a day.

If you don't get any hugs you get weird!"

Great video.

Thats funny. We were in Italy when we saw them. I thought it was great but I was too afraid to go hug them. But I certainly would do it NOW

Maybe I will get another chance or maybe we should make our own signs

Phil - I've heard that before - and keep trying to tell it to my husband and kids. More hugs!! More hugs!!

Ellen - Those kids are having a great time, aren't they. And they're sharing the joy.

Marlene - You were there and saw them? That's wonderful. I wonder if this is something that happens often, or if you saw this very event?

Jimmy - We all do - even (especially?) those of us who were raised to not touch people.
