Call Russel Ray for all your marketing, business, and photography needs. On one of my early morning walks at the San Diego Zoo last week, I saw a woman in front of the Fishing Cat exhibit.

In and of itself, that isn't so unusual. However, she was wearing a gold Century 21 jacket which I recognized since my husband has one, and that gold jacket did catch my attention.

I struck up a conversation with her and mentioned ActiveRain and blogging. She had heard about ActiveRain but questioned whether blogging was worth the time and effort.

She said she had asked herself many times, "Will I be successful if I blog?" and the answer was always no.

Blog on!In my best voice, I told her that blogging is like anything else. You get out of it that which you put in. No, blogging for the sake of blogging will not make you successful. Blogging to be helpful to prospective Clients, blogging to spread your name near and far on the Internet, blogging to be helpful to other professionals in the real estate industry, blogging persistently and consistently will make you successful. That I will happily guarantee.

I went looking for ActiveRain success stories and found a Google-load. I wanted to see how far back I could go to find ActiveRain success stories because that would indicate that now is the time to get started. Anything else is simply procrastination, delaying the inevitable, delaying the monetary gains from blogging.

Herewith is the oldest one I found, and I want you to read it because it's from Jason Crouch of Austin, Texas, and discusses his first three months at ActiveRain:

Jason is the epitome of ActiveRain success, and if you're not already reading his blog, well, you should.

Also check out the following older ActiveRain blogging success stories:

  1. Deb Brooks from Huntsville, TX
  2. Toula Rosebrock from Lacey Township, NJ
  3. Debe Maxwell from Charlotte, NC
  4. Jason Crouch from Austin, TX
  5. Carol Culkin from Poughkeepsie, NY
  6. More ActiveRain success stories
  7. 124 pages of ActiveRain success stories — These aren't all success stories per sé, but you can certainly get a lot of inspiration from reading these 124 pages. Just bookmark the link and go there whenever you need blogging inspiration.

blogging is building relationships...clearing your throat and having a voice and directing it to the people most interested in what you have to say.....and that could be a bad thing how ?

Hi, Russel. I didn't realize that Century 21 still had gold jackets, but what great branding.

I'm sure you did that woman a favor! Blogging is a great tool to have in your toolbox.

Thanks for the success stories. I know if I needed to contact a realtor in another area, I would look to my AR friends first... I know them better than a stranger.

Blogging needs to be put into perspective.  It is a great tool to help generate leads and make connections.  But if you don't have a follow up system to make it all come together then what is the point?

Russel,

You are right in the sense that you only get out, what you put in. If you really don't try, and never find your voice, you won't be successful.

Well over 95% of my clients find one of my blogs on the internet.

I agree with Brian in that you get out of it what you put in...just like anything else in life. This is a really cool blog. Thanks for digging up the old stories. I'm enjoying them immensely :-)

Russell - Thanks for the plug.  You are exactly right that you get what you put into blogging.  I must admit that these days I do not have nearly the time to dedicate to blogging as I did back in that 2008 post and to be honest, it's reflective in the amount of AR leads I get today.  Yes indeed, you get what you put into it.  Oh, and by the way ...I have one of those gold jackets!

Russel, another great blog.  Very motivating to say the least and, more than motivation, provides practical examples and models for one to follow IF THEY REALLY DO WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT BLOGGING AND ARE WILLING TO PUT IN THE TIME AND EFFORT.  Sorry for all the yelling.   I'm fired up this AM.  ;-)

Hi Russel!  Well said!  I think many newer members give it a 'whril' and then peter-out!  Consistency (just look at Jason!) is KEY and adding content that the consumer is looking for is another key factor to being successful with your blog.  The power of AR, so many members keeping fresh content coming on a minute-by-minute basis, gives us the perfect platform for getting our 'word' out there and being easily found by the consumer.

I LOVE this place and believe me, it has garnered some wonderful business and some fantastic relationships that I would have gone a lifetime without experiencing!  Where else would I have found YOU?!

Thanks for the mention and the link and for keeping the positivity flowing here in the Rain!  You ROCK!

Russell - like you said - you get out of it what you put into it. Personally I have gained so much from my journey on AR.  I now get to give back to those who want to start blogging but have no clue as to how - and aren't yet convinced of what it creates.

Russel - I too was once a non-believer.  For about a year before I joined AR, one of my Realtor friends had been bugging me about joining.  I too asked myself what difference would blogging make in my ability to succeed.  Well I finally joined in Sept 2008 and since then I can only directly relate six closings so far (one more this week) to my AR blog.  Not exactly a huge  success story but it's something.

The thing that is impressing me much more these days is my current pipeline of pre-approved clients who are actively looking to get into escrow.  Nearly 40% of them can be directly related to my AR blog.  NOW THAT'S HUGE!

While the majority of my business still comes from referrals from my SOI, blogging is starting to climb the charts, especially this year.

I love this post Russel! For so many who try blogging and then give up, it's about not getting an instant return on their efforts. I love this forum and have had some business referrals here but my biggest success has come from the relationships that have formed here in the Rain!

Wanda is bang on with her comment. Blogging is not about instant return. You have to work at it constantly and be persistant. It's not very different from any other form of marketing in an industry where success is based on forming relationships.

Russel, I need to send this post to all the agents that I have invited to join AR. They have done little or no blogging...this post may get 'em back to blogging.

Hey there Russel! The question is "what will the Agent get out of blogging, if she doesn't do it?" and what has she got to lose by trying it? Going where no one has blogged before, now that is the trick!

Hey, everyone!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I've been very busy, but today I'm trying to follow up on these older posts like this one to see if anyone had any questions or if I really need to respond to anyone's comments.

I will read all the comments and respond to any that need a response, but since this post is rather old, rather than making comments here in my post to each and every one of you, I'll just let everyone know that I have read all the comments and if there are any questions, I'll answer those in comments below this one. Otherwise I'll simply post this comment and then head over to your blogs soon to visit and do some reading and commenting. I hope you'll have a nice welcome mat out for me!

Don't forget to let your cat come out to play with all the other ActiveRain kitties. Your cat-friendly dogs can come, too!

If you need a great cat book, get yourself a copy of Peg Silloway's The Cat Lover's Book of Days.

Hope all is well with everyone.
