If you'd like to get a glimpse of what Ft. Lewis is like, take the virtual tour of Washington's largest Army installation. Ft. Lewis has repeatedly been voted "most desirable Army post". It's no wonder when you realize the many amenities available at Ft. Lewis; from the first rate Madigan Army Medical Center, the housing choices, the shopping and dining facilities, to the out-door recreation opportunities.

Find your way around Ft. Lewis with the help of this map.

Ft. Lewis is divided into Main Post and North Fort Lewis. The two parts of the installation are divided by Interstate-5. If arriving in Washington by plane, the ride to Ft. Lewis from SeaTac airport will take approximately 45 minutes. All initial in-processing takes place at Waller Hall, which is easy to find, due to plenty of signage around post. The on-post lodging facility has recently been enlarged, ensuring space availability. For overflow requirements, there are several nice hotels immediately outside the installation. The housing office is located right next to Waller Hall and it's a good place to research rental homes and to get placed on the on-post housing list. Communities to explore for safe, affordable, high quality off-post living are Dupont, Lacey, Olympia and Yelm.

Hi Sandy -- I was statinoned at Ft Lewis in 1967 and loved it.  Was only there for about 7 months and then went to Vietnam,  Left my family in Seattle while I was gone.  We loved the climate and beauty of the Post.  I do believe it is the only Army Post with a par 6 on it's golf course.  Aloha

Bruce, Thanks for your service in Vietnam. Did you retire in Hawaii after a tour at Schofield Barracks?

Hi Sandy -- Sure did.  Came out here from Ft Monroe/Pentagon and spent 4 years out here and they told me I had to go back to the Pentagon.  I told them that I had 20 yrs in the service and I did not have to go anywhere.  They said "Yup you have to go back to the Pentagon"  I said ALOHA and have been here ever since (except when I went back to Texas to marry a beautiful Lady)  Aloha

Smart move, Bruce. I'm so glad we managed to avoid the Pentagon.

Fort Lewis was my favorite duty assignment 1984 - 1989.  Liked it so much that we settled nearby after my military career.

Larry,

We were assigned there the first time from 1988 to 1991. It was our favorite duty station as well, that's why we tried so hard to get stationed there again for our last tour, and retired in the area.
