This oil hemorrhage has been really sad.  I can't believe we are still off-shore drilling, it doesn't make sense!

John - I'm not an engineer, but I honestly can't understand why no one can figure out how to stop that "spill".  Sad stuff indeed.

I don't think the humans will ever get it right. Someone has to pay.

Phly - It does take a toll on the ecosystem.

Cynthia - There is too much money at stake and debts to be paid for campaign contributions.

Jason - You'd think they would have a solution already thought out.

Robert H - That makes two of us who are mad as hell!

Robert B - Pay now and fix it NOW!!

Wanda - What goes around comes around (usually).

Al & Peggy - Thanks, Those are "clean" pelicans and they like it that way :-).

Political cartoons can sometimes be the best editorial on our times, John.  Sadly, this is so with these.  Poor birds.

John, I think the bird and turtle stories are a huge part of the rage that people are feeling about this.  Great photos.

Rosalinda - The best hope is to complete drilling of the second well but in the meantime, the oil never stops gushing.

Heather - I guess the birds are just "collateral damage" :-(

Steve - I'm sure the birds are wondering what hit them.

Pat - There have been quite a few endangered sea turtles killed by this catastrophe.

Fortunately, my area on Florida's East Coast has not been affected.

Here is the latest news from AP:

OILED FLORIDA

In Florida, thick pools of oil washed up along miles of national park and Pensacola Beach shoreline Wednesday, as health advisories against swimming and fishing in the once-pristine waters were extended for 33 miles east from the Alabama line. "It's pretty ugly, there's no question about it," Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said. The oil reeked as it baked in the afternoon heat on a beach that looked as if it had been paved with a 6-foot-wide ribbon of asphalt. Park ranger Bobbie Visnovske said a family found an oily young dolphin beached in the sand in the Gulf Islands National Seashore on Wednesday. Wildlife officers carried it into shallow water to revive it. They later transported it to a rehabilitation center in Panama City, about 100 miles to the east.

John - I can't think of any other gulf disaster that has broken my heart like this one has.  I know there was Katrina. . .But the thought that humans created this one, hits a really raw nerve.  Hopefully, BP will be successful in getting that second well drilled.  I understand it is like trying to hit a dinner plate, 3 miles below the ocean floor.  I hate to fathom the magnitude should they fail in that too.

John.....The wildlfe suffers tremendously from the results of this spill.  It is a sad situation and very difficult to understand why someone can't figure out how to stop the flow of oil.

Myrl - As always, your comments are thoughtful and insightful. Right now, there is a storm brewing just south of Cuba and if that deveplopes into a Hurricane, all hell will break loose.

Carra - I agree, they should have stopped it by now.

Ann - There was no viable back up plan in place but then, let's drill first and worry about the consequences later. It's a shame.
