Another Crofton Regional Community Center FUNdraiser is scheduled Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the skateboard park in Bowie, beginning at 9 a.m.
This all-day roller-blading and skateboarding event is being planned by The Family Bike Shop of Crofton and Owens Ski and Sport of Gambrills, with the help of CRCC volunteer and UMBC student Eric Tedrow. It's free, but please bring your checkbook so you can make a donation to the CRCC.
Music will be provided by Mountain of Make Believe, Dakota Red, and Left Hand Out. Concession stands will be open for refreshments, and you will see demonstrations throughout the day by several groups and individuals. These include the Baker and Vox skateboarding teams and rollerbladers Justin Tilman, Dan Brewer, Ryan Timms, Tim Phang, Nick Psiciotta, and Damon Darby.
Funds raised throughout the day will be used to help plan and build a skatepark at The Crofton Regional Community Center - a multipurpose facility designed to meet the needs of community residents, from teens to seniors.
Anne Arundel County made the land available for this purpose, but funding is in the hands of community residents, businesses and organizations. The county has set aggressive fundraising goals for the community, and it's up to residents and local businesses to demonstrate our commitment to this project.
The CRCC sponsored Crofton Night at the Bowie Baysox just last week and The Hair Experience sponsored a cut-a-thon a few weeks ago. After the Skate Park Fundraising Festival, the next scheduled fundraiser will be a Bull Roast on July 31 at the Elks Lodge on Rt. 450.
Regarding Saturday, "We're really hoping this event raises money, as well as awareness for what we are trying to accomplish," said Eric Tedrow. "Crofton needs this," added Jonathan Seibold, owner of the Family Bike Shop. "We want to give the skaters a place where they can progress in the sport without the dangers of the street," said Ian Humphrey of Owens Ski and Sport.
You can help make this community center a reality for Crofton MD by stopping by Allen Pond for a few minutes on Saturday to show your support, even if you have no interest whatsoever in skateboarding or rollerblading.
Now... if only the weather gods would cooperate and give us a beautiful sunny day with no humidity!
