This is my first blog that isn't a listing, so here goes. I am a broker in Vancouver. WA, which is not the other Vancouver up there in Canada where the Olympics were held last year. I've been there and it is a very lovely place. In fact it's so nice and familiar that people from all over the country, and even outside the country, email asking for information about houses in neighborhoods I've never heard of and what is the current exchange rate.
Just to try and clear this up, Vancouver, WA is located in Southwest Washington and used to be sort of a suburb of Portland, Oregon just across the Columbia River. I say used to be because Vancouver has grown so much that people don't have to drive across the bridge to work in Portland anymore, we have our own mature community with bussinesses, restaurants, shopping and all the other amenities that we need to be self sufficient.
There are also a few advantages of our location. If you do need to go to a city, Portland is just a short drive and it's a beautiful clean city. You can go over their for your culture and traffic fix. When you return over the bridge, you can drive the full speed limit again.
Mt. Hood is just a an hour away, so you can ski and hike and play up there, and we have our very own volcano- Mt St Helens. You can drive up there and lean your head over and look down into the crater. You can't do that in Vancouver B C.
We have excellant schools and great neighborhoods, from old style downtown to planned developements. Condos and houses on the river and great horse properties. We also have great fishing, hunting, and all sorts of outdoor activities available. We also have an ocean just like they do, only ours is an hour and a half away.
So for all of you who are wondering, Vancouver WA was founded before Vancouver BC, which doesn't really matter all that much. They are both great cities with much to offer.
And as far as the exchange rate, it's just about 100%.
