Wimbledon ChampionshipsWow!  That is about all I can say about the match between American John Isner and Frenchman Nicholas Mahoot at Wimbledon.  It finally ended today after 11 hours!

To say that Isner won, 3 games to 2, doesn't even begin to tell the story. The tie-breaking set was played for 10 hours yesterday, until it got too dark to play.  When they suspended play for the night, it was tied at 59-59.  Today it finally ended and Isner won, 70 games to 68, after another hour.  Many records fell, including the most aces, and all kinds of others.  I haven't seen all of the statistics yet, but they
Tennis player will be amazing.

This was a match that broke all kinds of records and tennis fans were scrambling for access to today's play, even though this all took place on Court 18.  Normally, the biggest competition for seats is at center court, where all of the biggest names play.

Isner is a good-looking young man, 25 years old, 6'9" tall, and he can now expect to be invited to just about every talk show and be sought after for interviews.  He impressed me as well by the way he praised Mahoot's play at least as much as his own.

Isner is scheduled to play another match today.  It will be interesting to see if they postpone his match to give him some rest or if he will plow on through, even though he hasn't had much sleep.

And in case you're curious, they didn't take a bathroom break until the score was 56-56, when Isner said he simply couldn't wait any more!

(By the way, the photo is a stock photo and is not of Isner).

Susan,

Sometimes we feel like it takes that perseverance to get a home closed these days!  Great match!

All the best, Michelle

That was by far the wildest match I've ever seen. Great job by both players. It was a shame that one of them had to lose.

I think they will both end up winners, even though Mahoot didn't advance in the tournament. For the rest of their lives, they will be asked about this match.

And Mahoot had to play a doubles match after.  They talked about how much liquid they had to drink, gallons, and I think 12 energy bars, and their body temperatures were going between the 90s and 105.  Amazing stuff.

Hi Susan, I think these two players mastered the determination side and remind me of a few REALTORS doing short sales. Or the Energizer Bunny. :-) The determination part I surely understand. The energy and the the physical stamina were awesome.

I got so frustrated because the latter stages of the match weren't being carried live on television or on the Internet.

P.S. It's Mahut.
